The University of Pittsburgh, Department of OB/GYN and Reproductive Sciences is seeking an Assistant/Associate Professor, appointment stream to act as the Assistant/Associate Director for the UPMC Cytogenetics Laboratory (UCL). The primary responsibility will include analysis and interpretation of results, preparation, and reviewing of final test reports, and reporting of results on oncological, prenatal, and postnatal specimens. The candidate will be expected to develop and validate in-house FISH -based assays for applications in oncology and other areas of importance to UCL and the Center for Medical Genetics as technologies evolve. Also, he/she will assist in the overall direction, supervision, and administration of the performance of operations related to cytogenetics specimen handling, specimen testing, and specimen reporting, in an accurate, proficient, and expedient manner while ensuring client and patient confidentiality.

Other responsibilities include helping in the maintenance of standard operating procedure manuals, and quality control practices as required by the regulatory and licensing agencies (CLIA, CAP), as well as the building clinical evidence -based supporting information for reporting of FISH and microarray tests. Participation in directing and supervising cytogenetics technical staff in the technical performance of proficiency testing programs as required by the regulatory and licensing agencies of CGI (CLIA, CAP).

UCL plays an important role in the education and training of future clinical and laboratory professionals in genetics and genomics as well as medical students, genetic counselors, resident physicians, and physician subspecialty trainees. The candidate will actively participate in teaching various trainees during their rotation in the cytogenetics laboratory.

He/she will also be expected to participate regularly in presentations at weekly and monthly hematopathology, tumor board, and genetics case conferences. Innovation is an important part of UCL activities, and we expect that he/she will participate in publishing, collaborating, and developing new tests. Moreover, we expect that the candidate will participate in educating University of Pittsburgh Physicians (UPP) and community physicians regarding new genetic technologies.

Required: Ph.D. or MD, Board certification, or board eligibility in Clinical Cytogenetics through the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics.
