The Assistant/Associate Director works collaboratively with the director of the CTSE Team to shape a wide variety of programs that promote teaching, learning, and scholarly excellence across the University's three schools and supports the University's strategic initiatives.

The Assistant/Associate Director CTSE will develop, refine and lead workshops for instructors across the University based on sound pedagogic principles and provide research-based consultation on topics such as course design, evaluation techniques, classroom management and teaching innovations. This position is also responsible for organizing the CTSE programming schedule in consultation with the CTSE Team, overseeing and collaboratively facilitating Course Design Institutes, organizing the Fall Teaching Luncheon and the Symposium on Innovation in Teaching and Learning, managing the Teaching and Learning Innovation Grant (TEALIG) program, designing and conducting training for Suffolk University Teaching Assistants (TAs), creating and facilitating new workshops and programs, and assisting in the preparation and delivery of the New Faculty Orientations.

Responsibilities:

  • Promote Inclusive Teaching & Learning Program Design, Facilitation and Assessment

Develop, promote and assess inclusive teaching and learning efforts both through workshops and more broadly through CTSE efforts; collaborate with University administrators, faculty and staff to promote inclusive teaching efforts; research and consult with experts in the field.

  • Program Design, Facilitation and Assessment

In consultation with the CTSE team, schedule, design, and facilitate existing and new workshops and modify previous workshops and programs for faculty audiences; manage the Teaching and Learning Innovation Grants (TEALIG) program; oversee TA training initiatives; organize the Fall Teaching Luncheon and the May Symposium on Innovation in Teaching and Learning; and co-manage and co-facilitate the Course Design Institute programs.

  • Consultation

Meet with faculty clients one-on-one to diagnose teaching concerns; provide research-backed resources; provide classroom observations; analyze teaching materials; conduct midterm feedback sessions (SGIDs); and provide additional services as needed.

  • Scholarship of Teaching & Learning - SoTL

Assist the team in the development, promotion and assessment of SoTL programming; continue to gain expertise in the field.

  • General Involvement in CTSE events and other duties

Provide support for ongoing programming and the overall functioning of the Center as needed; assist in developing content for the CTSE website and newsletter; collaborate on grant writing in support of institutional initiatives; participate in the assessment of CTSE programming.

  • Develop and maintain expertise in higher education teaching and learning

Keep up to date on the literature; activity participate in the field of educational development; present at local, regional and national conferences and publish, as appropriate.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or Ed.D required;

  • Two or more years of experience working in educational development;

  • Demonstrated knowledge of theory and practical application of higher education teaching and learning, particularly in inclusive course design and assessment;

  • Experience with interdisciplinary models of pedagogy;

  • Experience as a university instructor;

  • Experience with and success in collaborative environments;

  • Ability to work well independently, meet deadlines, and willingness to multitask and assist on a variety of projects;

  • Proven initiative and ability to work as a self-starter;

  • Superior written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.

Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of scholarship of teaching and learning;

  • Previous experience designing college courses or designing and facilitating professional development workshops, seminars, and presentations.

S/he will promote an environment that facilitates professional growth and role competence, with a concentrated focus on specialty proficiency and regulatory compliance. In collaboration with the Nurse Director, s/he is accountable for hiring and evaluating staff performance and will actively participate in the budgetary process. Ensure that current evidence-based practice is consistent across the division. The well-qualified candidate will promote a just culture and a culture of safety. Their goals will be patient- and family-centered. S/he will serve as a highly visible leader and role model in the development/obtainment of hospital unit and division mission and goals. S/he will embrace the concept of change and lead staff through the change process as evidenced by adoption of new behaviors or processes and improved outcome measures. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Participates in leadership strategic planning meetings * Applies theoretical and experiential knowledge of nursing practice to determine project and program strategies related to staff competency, new programs, new technologies, research, and evidence-based practice. * Provides expertise, direction and is responsible for the development of goals and objectives for educational programs. * Leads evidence-based practice initiatives. * Provides leadership coverage for patient care and nursing practice in the absence of a Nurse Director. * Participates in hiring, evaluations, discipline, corrective action plans and workplace investigations. * Conducts annual and ongoing evaluation of nurses, patient care assistants, emergency services assistants, and medical assistants and provides formal and informal feedback. * Identifies learning needs and develops and implements programs for patient education within the area of specialization. * Facilitates the acquisition of advanced clinical skills in clinical staff nurses and graduate students through role modeling, practice, coaching and consultation in the clinical setting. * Participates in development of programs/systems to meet the requirements of state and federal regulatory agencies to ensure compliance. * Participates in hospital surveys. * Encourages and recommends nurses for committee work based on their interest and clinical expertise. * Represents the Chief Nursing Officer /Associate Chief Nurses/Executive Directors on committees as needed. * Develops and/or revises policies/guidelines based on changes in practice, new research findings/equipment, or products along with ensuring education/in-servicing is completed. * Communicates clear expectations for BWH/Department of Nursing quality initiatives and outcomes measures and strategies to enhance performance measures. * Leads quality and safety efforts while promoting a just culture framework. * Participates in root cause analysis and implements/supports improvement efforts. FISCAL MANAGEMENT: * Creates a budget for programmatic work and monitors expenditures in accordance with budget allocations. * Provides recommendations for capital budget purchases. * Promotes cost effective delivery of care and programs and keeps within budget. * Determines training resource requirements for designated programs. OTHER: * Participates in special projects as directed by the Chief Nursing Officer/Associate Chief Nurse/Executive Director QUALIFICATIONS: * Current Massachusetts licensure as a registered nurse required. * Meets health requirements. * Degree requirements: MSN (or) MS with a major in Nursing (or) DNP (or) PhD with a major in Nursing (or) a BSN with a Master's degree in a related field, required. * Minimum five years of clinical experience as a clinical nurse with demonstrated evidence of leadership progression. * Current certification preferred or to be attained within two year period from date of hire. * Certification must be maintained while employed in this position. * Demonstrated evidence of competent nursing practice in clinical area or specialty.
