Position

The Department of Entomology at Purdue University is seeking an Assistant/Associate Clinical Professor of Teaching and Learning. The ideal candidate will have a background in entomology and teaching pedagogy. The position would contribute to a thriving Insect Biology program consisting of nearly 100 undergraduate and graduate students, while working with a collaborative community of 20+ entomology faculty. The position would also have opportunities for engaging with the broader teaching & learning community at the College and University levels (e.g., Purdue's Center for Instructional Excellence).

Responsibilities

This is an academic year appointment, primarily focused on innovative instruction in core entomology and service courses (e.g., ENTM 10500 Insects: Friend and Foe, ENTM 20600/20700: General Entomology Lecture/Lab), contributions to development of the undergraduate curriculum, and support for undergraduate recruitment. Potential exists for teaching distance/online courses during the academic year. The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Contribute to the achievement of instructional outcomes by teaching courses, and developing instructional materials at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

  • Contribute to research in the scholarship of teaching and learning.

  • Support the Department's academic programs through student mentoring.

  • Participate in strategic planning for the undergraduate curriculum and Insect Biology major.

  • Contribute to recruitment efforts to maintain or increase enrollment in the Insect Biology major.

  • Work synergistically with faculty from within the Department of Entomology and across the College of Agriculture to support the University's teaching, research, and extension missions.

  • Engage in outreach and service within and outside of the Department.

Qualifications

A PhD in entomology, biology, or other life science-related fields, by the time of appointment. Demonstrated teaching experience.

Required

  • Experience in instruction at the undergraduate and/or graduate level including the development, delivery and assessment of academic courses.

  • Experience in the scholarship of teaching and learning.

  • Experience mentoring students at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.

  • A background check is required for employment in this position.
