Assistant Warehouse Manager

Schedule: Non-Exempt

Salary: $55k-$65k DOE

JOB SUMMARY:

The Assistant Warehouse Manager is responsible for assisting with the management of day-to-day warehouse operations. Additionally, they are responsible for ensuring completion of all picking and shipping of items daily, determining placement and movement of product to keep stock replenished and up to date, maintaining the safety and organization of the warehouse, ensuring adherence to safety and building regulations, and reporting issues or concerns to the Warehouse Manager. Works under general direction and guidance of the Warehouse Manager and requires independent judgment.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with creation and implementation of daily operational goals and metrics to ensure the warehouse meets and delivers industry leading service levels.

  • Establish and utilize proper processes, tools, and resources to continuously optimize fulfillment operations and shipping logistics.

  • Collaborate with workers and management to solve work-related problems.

  • Collaborate with Warehouse Manager to assess training needs of staff and arrange for or provide appropriate instruction, including monthly safety training.

  • Participate in the Safety Committee and collaborate with Warehouse Manager on safety efforts.

  • Consistently communicate clear expectations to all warehouse employees

  • Understand, work, and maneuver within the Scale warehouse management system.

  • Train Supervisors, Leads, and others on the Scale warehouse management system.

  • Perform the same work duties as those supervised or perform more difficult or skilled tasks to assist in their performance.

  • Support Quality Assurance efforts, ensuring proper and error-free receiving of product.

  • Research and resolve shipping errors and implement procedures to reduce future errors.

  • Assist with creation of ZEN Desk tickets and discrepancy forms when needed and follow the life cycle of the ticket to resolution.

  • Ensure building security systems remain operational and internal fire safety systems receive periodic service maintenance.

  • Ensure items are shipped to customers by coordinating the location of items, boxing product to ensure safe and damage-free shipping and entering required information into system.

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of warehouse to ensure efficiency and safety.

  • Assist with inventory counts and organizing supplies and equipment.

  • Receive product, input data into computer system, direct or assist with shelving of product, and notify Accounting of receipt.

  • Manage damage or lost product claims, following up with vendor until claim is resolved.

  • Research and resolve errors and implement procedures to reduce/prevent recurrence.

  • Resolve Purchase Order (PO) issues.

  • Consistently adhere to and enforce established policies and procedures and set example of appropriate work behavior.

  • Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide leadership and create an environment which fosters effective, goal-focused performance for individual staff and team.

  • Coordinate with Warehouse Manager to relay general information or address specific topics with employee via staff meetings/daily stand-up meetings.

  • Ensure proper training and certifications for employees utilizing safety sensitive equipment such as forklifts, joeys, cherry/order pickers etc.

  • Review work throughout the process flow and at completion to ensure it has been performed properly.

  • Coordinate with Supervisors and Team Leads to plan work schedules, assign duties to ensure effective performance, and maintain adequate staff in response to fluctuating workloads.

  • Counsel employees regarding work-related activities, personal growth, or career development.

  • Evaluate employee performance and prepare performance appraisals.

  • Prioritize work, direct staff, and assign duties to ensure efficient and timely completion of daily tasks.

  • Resolve personnel problems or complaints when possible and refer staff to higher-level management or Human Resources when necessary.

  • Participate in the hiring process by reviewing credentials, conducting interviews, and making hiring decisions or recommendations.

  • Assist with bi-weekly timecard approvals and time off processes such as Paid Time Off (PTO), Personal/Floating Holidays (PHO), etc.

  • Collaborate with Human Resource on FMLA/ADA, Leaves of Absences, work-related injuries, investigations, and any other required processes.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required

  • 2-3 years work-related experience or a combination of education and experience

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and able to obtain forklift certification.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience working with state-of-the-art fulfillment and warehouse management systems.

  • Proven track record in leadership, problem solving, and overall process improvement.

  • Excellent communication skills with ability to set clear performance expectations.

  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, twist, climb, and perform repetitive movements for extended periods.

  • Requires using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, working in cramped workspaces and awkward positions, exposure to hazardous equipment, and distracting/uncomfortable sounds and noise levels.

  • Experience using ladders and forklifts.

  • Ability to lift to 50 pounds on a regular basis, and team lift to 120 pounds on occasion.

  • Requires working in warehouse environment with varying temperatures.

  • Must be able to adhere to attendance policies and requirements.

  • Ability to speak/read in English.

  • WMS, Scale experience preferred.
