This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position that reports to the head volleyball coach. Assist the Head Coach in the administration, management and promotion of all aspects of a successful Division III athletic program in compliance with NCAA and Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rules and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • General

  • Have normal office hours enabling assistance in all areas of the day-to-day workings of the program: academic support, budget, equipment, fundraising, recruit visits, etc.

  • Assist with coordinating all team gear and equipment, as well as laundry.

  • Assist with all social media accounts, when needed.

  • Practice and Competition

  • Assists the head coach in the organization, preparation of practices and in conducting safe and strategic individual and team training sessions and competitive strategies.

  • Executes appropriate coaching decisions during practice and competition that ensure the welfare of the student athletes representing their program.

  • Assist is training of positional group (pending experience)

  • Recruiting

  • Assists the head coach in the development and incorporation of a comprehensive recruiting plan that shows successful results for the recruitment, yield and retention of academically and athletically qualified student-athletes in a rigorous academic environment.

  • Can attend all required recruiting road trips.

  • Serves as an effective recruiter for the program working within the parameters of Kalamazoo, MIAA and NCAA rules.

  • Recruitment strategy results in healthy roster numbers and a competitive program against scheduled opponents.

  • Travel and Game Management

  • Assists with the arrangement and supervision of transportation, lodging and meals in connection with off-campus competition. Ensures that the team represents the college at the highest level while off-campus.

  • Assists the head coach and game management staff with the preparation and event management needs at home competitive events.

  • Assists in the coordination of special events including recruiting, alumni and student-athlete recognition functions.

  • Finance

  • Effectively manages and makes decisions relative to credit card purchases and any budgetary or financial operations within the program as assigned by the head coach.

  • Follows all institutional protocols as it relates to business policies and ethical financial decisions.

  • Ethics

  • Represents the college and its athletics program with honesty, integrity and sportsmanship to various institutional programs and students, parents, the general public, alumni and external agencies.

  • Develops a positive, professional relationship with officials, league personnel, and coaching colleagues.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess a bachelor's degree and many of the following traits.

  • A commitment to the student-athlete experience;

  • Evidence of strong organizational and effective communication skills;

  • Current knowledge of NCAA or MIAA regulations;

  • Ability to successfully recruit college-level student-athletes;

  • Previous coaching experience;

  • Previous collegiate playing experience;

  • Evidence of a commitment to academic excellence;

  • Ability to interact effectively with student-athletes, colleagues, and the public;

  • Capable and willing to actively plan and participate in fundraising, promotions, and other similar endeavors as they relate to the volleyball program and the entire Athletics Department.
