Reporting to the Vice President for Student Success, this position will provide direct supervision and strategic leadership in the areas of Academic Advising and Career Development. As an integral part of the Student Success leadership team, the Assistant Vice President will advocate for student needs, while working to enhance the student experience and provide a comprehensive network of support through the provision of programs and services as well as internal and external opportunities that facilitate student development, engagement, civic responsibility as well as personal and professional growth.

The Assistant Vice President will build and foster relationships with various functional areas on campus to address mutual concern across the departments and colleges, ensuring student needs are prioritized and institutional student oriented goals are achieved.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides direct operational oversight for two areas: 1- Academic Advising and 2- Career Development, with direct supervision of five staff members, and a team of approximately 50 staff members

  • Actively participates in Student Success strategic planning ensuring that developed goals align with the Universitys goals and contribute toward growth & enhancement of services.

  • Develops and coordinates the dissemination and accessibility of information for part-time and full-time faculty about the resources and services within Student Success

  • Provides direct leadership to Academic Advising and Career Development and sets a tone of leadership that is student-centered, collaborative and focuses on data- based decision-making.

  • Build and foster relationships with Human Resources, General Council and the office of institutional Research leadership to develop and implement outcome driven efforts in support of University enrollment, retention and graduation goals.

  • Leverages data, technology and relevant reports in strategic decision making in collaboration with the Student Success Leadership Team

  • Acts as a liaison and advocate to campus and community constituents on issues as it relates to student success, that may be sensitive in nature, while working closely with faculty in each of the five colleges on these and other issues

  • Facilitates trainings and presentations during Orientation, Family Weekend, Commencement and other large scale events and programs

  • Co-Chairs the Faculty Advisory Board on Undergraduate Advising

  • Other committee work may be required

POSITION OVERVIEW Reporting to the President and serving as a member of the Senior Staff, the Vice President for Enrollment Management & Student Affairs provides executive leadership, oversight and evaluation for the Enrollment Management and Student Affairs division. As the Chief Enrollment Management and Student Affairs Officer, the VP EMSA should demonstrate as well as share knowledge and appreciation of the challenges and complexities facing urban higher education institutions and students in the 21st Century. The Vice President will exhibit a desire and ability to serve as an advocate for students and will prioritize working directly with students and will serve as a mentor in expansive efforts to promote student leadership. The offices and programs reporting to the Vice President include Accessibility Services, Admissions, Athletics, the Center for Involvement and Student Leadership, the Children's Center, Counseling, Community Outreach & Service Learning Program, Dean of Students, Financial Aid, Health and Wellness Resources, the Immigrant Student Success Center, Jay Express Enrollment Services, LGBTQ+ programs, Military & Veterans Services, Residence Life, the college's Student Activities Association, Testing & Evaluation, the college's TREO programs, Urban Male Initiative Program, and the Women's Center for Gender Justice. The successful candidate will promote integration and collaboration of all of these departments to promote synergy and student success.
