The University of Miami UHealth has an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Vice President, Research Operations for Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Assistant Vice President is a senior member of the cancer center's executive leadership team.

They are responsible for the efficient operations and financial performance of Sylvester. This role has direct oversight and responsibility for strategic planning, finances, shared resources, faculty recruitment, space planning, facilities, and the Sylvester Institutes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Faculty Recruitment and Onboarding: Work closely with Faculty Chair of the Sylvester Recruitment Committee, with oversight from Sylvester's Executive Committee and the Cancer Center Director, to initiate new faculty recruitment in alignment with the strategic growth and goals of the Center.

Provide administrative oversight for package development and support faculty onboarding. Serves as key point person for faculty programmatic needs and oversees process for initiating review for commitment renewals of faculty.

Programmatic/Operational Leadership/Space Management: Will oversee operations of space planning and management.

With direction from Cancer Center Director, will lead activation and ongoing building management of the GCRB - external vendor oversight including the café, innovation hubs, conference center, shared resources and laboratory operations. Develops, plans and operationalizes research space allocation and initialization, including relocation and ongoing oversight. Sits as administrative leader of the Sylvester Space Committee. Establishes policies and procedures supporting effective operations.

Fiscal Accountability and Budget: Administers responsible oversight of budgetary policies, procedures and preparation, monitoring revenues and expenditures, including accounting operations and related functions, fiscal reporting and compliance, and adherence to financial plans.

Oversees planning and spending for Sylvester capital projects and presents to Dr. Nimer for review and approvals.

Research Cores/Shared Resources: Accountable for administrative oversight of Sylvester's shared resources.

With direction from the Deputy Director, and Cancer Center Director, collaborates with the Associate Director and shared resource leaders and investigators to ensure research needs translate into strategic plans matched appropriately with research resources.

Works closely with the Associate Director to support the operationalizing of new technologies and services. In partnership with the Associate Director, ensures that the cancer center's shared research resources are efficiently managed and operated and provide cutting-edge resources that catalyze basic and translational research.

Initiation, Support and Enhancement of Sylvester Research Institutes: In collaboration with other stakeholders, serves as administrative lead in initiation and ongoing support of new and existing disease specific research institutes.

Oversees the internal budgets of each institute, as part of the overall oversight of Sylvester finances. Works closely with philanthropy to drive fundraising for Sylvester institutes and provides direction for reporting on institute deliverables.

Development and External Affairs: In partnership with executive leaders of respective areas, seeks and supports donor, community, government and industry relationships including the coordination of external visits to our research laboratories. Works closely with Development, Innovation, Marketing and Communications on relevant GCRB/Sylvester Institutes external and internal communications (owned, earned and paid media including community engagement, events, brand activations etc.)

Professional Enhancement: Stays abreast of industry trends and regulations, as well as local and regional landscape, ensuring enhanced knowledge base to maintain competitive edge. Ensures staff growth and professional development.
