Summary of Position: The position supports the Vice President of Academic Affairs within the College of Adult and Professional Studies (CAPS). The Assistant Vice President (AVP) will provide leadership to the Office of Academic Innovation as well as the Office of Academic Assessment and Evaluation. The AVP will develop a high-performance team and culture, that embraces continuous improvement, and technological advancements, that result in excellent student learning experiences. The AVP will lead the CAPS efforts in incorporating new technologies and strategies to improve process efficiency and student learning. The AVP will be a key leader in advancing CAPS in innovation, program development, curriculum development and the implementation of Artificial Intelligence in systems and programs.

The AVP ensures the efficiency of these operational activities in collaboration with the different internal stakeholders, including the National and Global Chancellor's office, learner success, academics, and venture development. The AVP will be responsible for developing and managing the budget for the office of Academic Assessment and Evaluation and the Office of Academic Innovation.

The AVP will be a member of the CAPS Academic Team, serving alongside the Academic Deans by providing leadership, policy and procedures development and creating a culture of excellence.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leadership

  • Provides leadership and strategic direction for the Learning Experience Design, Strategic Initiatives, and Faculty Enrichment teams

  • Ensures that the direction for N&G and its strategic plans are communicated and fulfilled in each of these departments

  • Strategic Initiative Development and Incubation

  • Works with leadership to identify, categorize, and prioritize potential new opportunities for N&G

  • Develops the initial value proposition, model, and testing plan for innovation concepts

  • Works in partnership with leadership across IWU as well as external partners to drive potential solutions from idea phase through subsequent stages until the product/service is market/student-ready

  • Pioneers new thinking, tools and techniques to enable IWU to deliver higher value, scalable solutions

  • Assists in the discovery, development, and initial administration of grant opportunities that align with potential solutions

  • Industry Innovation Intelligence

  • In collaboration with the VP and Chancellor, identifies relevant trends and the technologies and innovations that N&G needs to remain competitive

  • Visits leaders in innovative thought, both within and outside higher education, to learn best practices

  • Attends events to learn about innovation in various industries

  • Researches and authors reports designed to provide N&G with a deep understanding of specific market opportunities

  • These reports will include building business cases, implementation plans, and case studies of successful initiatives

  • Academic Partner

  • Serves as a strategic partner to the CAPS Schools

  • Works in tandem with academic leaders to build strong relationships between the OAI and CAPS faculty

  • Collaborates with PAUs on strategic academic projects and innovations that move departments cooperatively in the direction of the strategic plan

  • Strategic Program Launch (SPL)

  • Oversees the launch of academic programs via the SPL process and annually reviews and updates the process

  • Participates in inclusive planning process across all departments that fosters prioritization and efficiency of new degree development

  • Learning Experience Design (LXD)

  • Oversees the LXD operation, including all aspects of prioritization, project management, instructional design, and technology enablement

  • Ensures the training and development of the LXD teams

  • Works with the Director and academic leadership to identify, adopt, and implement next generation learning technologies and strategies

  • In conjunction with the Director of LXD, collaborates with academic leaders to implement a continuous quality enhancement process that advances the course development process

  • Faculty Enrichment (FE)

  • Oversee the FE team, including all aspects of training, scholarly, and promotional efforts

  • Ensures the alignment of FE offerings and experiences with the needs and goals of the academic units

  • In conjunction with the Director of FE, collaborates with academic leaders to advance the faculty enrichment system

  • Compliance

  • Oversees the state authorization process, including all personnel, initiatives, and finances

  • Academic Assessment and Evaluation

  • Provides leadership for the Office of Academic Assessment and Evaluation, develops and manages CAPS-wide assessment protocols and quality assurance systems that ensure continuous accreditation, regulatory compliance, and readily accessible data

  • Other duties as assigned

Education

  • Master's degree in Technology, Assessment, Administration, or related field (required)
  • Terminal degree in Technology, Assessment, Administration, or related field (preferred)

Experience

  • Leading teams of academic professionals

  • Leading technology innovation in an academic setting

  • Implementing Artificial Intelligence tools and processes for improved systems and products

  • Supervising academic support professionals

  • Supporting program assessment and evaluation

  • Managing academic support team budgets

Required Skills

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to set priorities in a fast-paced, multi-task work environment
