Business Overview:

The mission of the CIB Legal NA is to provide comprehensive, effective and efficient legal support to the CIB businesses. In this capacity, in matters concerning US or Canadian law or regulation, we're responsible for provision of legal advice to our clients, preparation and review of legal documentation, management of litigation and major law enforcement or regulatory investigations, and selection, supervision and control of outside counsel.


Finance & Process support, including but not limited to:

  • Legal spend management

  • Responsible for analyzing, tracking and reporting outside counsel spend

  • Monitor application of referral to outside counsel's procedures to ensure accurate reporting metrics

  • Provide high quality support for finance team including: maintaining logs of legal and allocation activities, headcount, expenses, assist with the preparation of comprehensive monthly financial reports on operating budget

  • Legal accruals management

  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining a robust set of standard accruals procedures to ensure information is collected and viewed in a manner that ensures completeness; work closely with internal and external teams to improve accuracy with estimates for legal fees; monitor quality of data

  • Work closely with relevant parties on third party risk management for on-boarding of all new vendors, to the extent necessary

  • Complete initial questionnaire due diligence as required by vendor management system

  • Responsible for coordinating responses received and ensuring timely updates are uploaded and escalated

  • Work closely with vendor on remedial action plan

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • Strong Technical Skills, typically 5+ years:

  • Advanced Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA a plus

  • 4 + years of law firm or in-house legal and operations management support experience

  • Knowledge of basic financial terms, concepts and accounting principles

  • Excellent:

  • Interpersonal skills

  • Judgment

  • Ability to prioritize workload, sense of urgency and attention to detail (time management)
