Pratt Institute seeks a creative, innovative and strategic leader for the position of Assistant Vice President for Admissions. The AVP provides general oversight of the undergraduate and graduate marketing, recruitment and admissions processes.

Reporting to and partnering with the Vice President for Enrollment Management, the AVP works closely with key offices and individuals across campus to recruit and enroll aspiring artists, designers and creators in a highly competitive and ever-changing market.

The AVP works to ensure that best practices are utilized for engaging a wide range of audiences including prospective students, families and educators. The AVP provides vision to inspire, motivate, coach and mentor professional and support staff in setting and reaching enrollment goals and works closely with academic department chairs across the 5 schools of the Institute to ensure that recruitment and enrollment initiatives work to attract students who meet the qualifications of their respective programs.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work with the Vice President for Enrollment Management (VPEM) to design and develop creative, effective and data-driven approaches to meet the graduate and undergraduate enrollment goals of the Institute.

  • Provide the oversight needed for the efficient and effective day-to-day operations of the Office of Admissions.

  • Directly supervise and mentor the Director of Admissions and the Director of Recruitment and provide overall leadership for the marketing, recruitment, operations, and admissions staff of the office.

  • Work to advance the diversity, equity and inclusion goals of the Institute by identifying opportunities and providing recruitment and enrollment services to increase the numbers of underrepresented students in the Pratt community.

  • Work closely with the VPEM and the Assistant VP for Student Financial Services to determine, monitor and assess financial aid leveraging strategies.

  • Work closely with the Communications & Marketing department of the Institute and assigned members of the Admissions team to ensure recruitment and marketing events, initiatives and materials are consistent with the overall branding and marketing of the Institute and work to drive lead generation, applications and conversions.

  • Work closely with the VPEM and the Institute's school deans and program chairs to determine the composition and character of each entering cohort.

  • Assist in the design and delivery of marketing, recruitment, admissions, and enrollment strategies and initiatives to meet the enrollment goals of Pratt's extension campus (Pratt Munson), located in Utica, NY.

  • Utilize data to determine program effectiveness, to inform strategic planning, and to provide updates to academic departments, senior staff, and the board of trustees.

  • Provide initiatives and ongoing support to maintain fruitful relationships with high school, two-year college, and community-based educators on a local, national and international level.

  • Consider regional, national and international trends in secondary and post-secondary education when shaping recruitment and enrollment goals and strategies.

  • Ensure that personnel, policies, and procedures inspire a high level of confidence and satisfaction among prospective students, their families and teachers.

  • Gather and analyze data to determine program effectiveness, to inform strategic planning and to provide updates and insights to academic departments, senior staff and the board of trustees.

  • Work across offices to design and deliver a seamless process for the on-boarding of new students.

  • Play a central role in the selection, training and evaluation of 20 full-time staff members. Work to support staff development and engagement by providing an overview of data, goals and desired outcomes when assigning tasks and assessing performance.

  • Manage a $5 million operations budget.

Educational Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree and 10 years of progressive experience in undergraduate, graduate, and/or international admissions.

  • Significant background in arts-related admissions preferred, with AICAD experience considered a plus.

  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting higher education goals and a palpable interest in the mission of Pratt Institute.

  • Understanding of financial aid leveraging and pricing.

  • Familiarity with enrollment information systems, web technologies, electronic data management, and predictive modeling, including experience with Slate CRM.

  • Proven leadership experience emphasizing accountability, integrity, influence, and future focus.

  • Strong people and supervisory skills, including success in managing and developing staff, inspiring teams, and fostering a positive workplace culture.

  • Ability to provide candid, collaborative, respectful, and engaging leadership in supervisory, team, and organizational meetings.

  • Demonstrated ability to build fruitful partnerships with colleagues and offices across a campus.

  • Understanding of the role admissions plays in student retention and success, as well as utilizing data to guide recruitment and marketing initiatives.

  • Ability to mitigate stress and contribute to a positive work environment, with a solutions-first focus.

Personal Qualities and Additional Requirements:

  • Good sense of humor.

  • Willingness to travel and work occasional evenings and weekends.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Salary range is $135,000-170,000. The position will be onsite a minimum of 4 day/wk.
