Job Description:

The AVPAA will report to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, working closely with the senior academic team to reinvigorate the institution's student success agenda. The AVPAA will accomplish this work by providing both vision and direction for student success and through oversight of day-to-day operational functions for academic support services. In addition, the AVPAA will extend the scope of the academic success agenda to include other student-facing areas that play significant roles in creating positive student engagement opportunities that enhance students' sense of well-being and personal agency.

The AVPAA is responsible for creating sustainable operational and strategic plans supported by appropriate resource allocations that are informed by robust assessment protocols that provide evidence of desired student success goal attainment. This will require an AVPAA who has the capacity to work collaboratively with key stakeholders and functions campus-wide and has a strong commitment to upholding the College's core values, particularly as they relate to enhancing the student sense of belonging and accomplishment.

The AVPAA responsibilities include:

  • Setting milestones and operational strategies that lead to measurable achievements in accordance with the objectives of the Institution's Strategic Plan.

  • Identifying and utilizing assessment tools and protocols to measure progress towards the student success agenda, and to provide feedback on the effectiveness of the initiatives and programs.

  • Researching and creating contemporary, effective interventions and innovations in student academic engagement that address student learning needs.

AVPAA Reporting Structure and Oversight

The AVPAA will provide direct supervision on a daily basis to the following professional academic units and facilitate communication and cooperation between and among the direct reports and campus-wide.

Functional Areas include:

  • Educational Support Services and Advisement

  • International Education

  • Library

  • Online Instruction

  • Registrar

The AVPAA will, in collaboration with the senior Academic Affairs team, have oversight over the First Year Experience (including the first-year seminar course), Honors, student pre-graduate advising and internships.

Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinating recruitment, selection, supervision and evaluation of professional and classified staff.

  • Providing leadership in the pursuit of academic grant funding opportunities, including the preparation of grant proposals.

  • Overseeing program budgets with recommendations regarding resource allocation

  • Managing and appointing, when appropriate, committee service

  • Representing SUNY Cobleskill at appropriate community, University and professional functions and meetings.

  • Developing and preparing requested reports.

  • Ensuring implementation of an assessment plan that is housed in WEAVE and is utilized to make resource and programmatic decisions.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in education, higher education administration or a discipline represented in the academic portfolio of the college.

  • Record of increasing responsibility and success as a leader and manager within higher education including supervision of staff and/or faculty.

  • Experience in academic affairs, advising, student support services, enrollment management or student affairs.

  • Demonstrated record of implementing successful programs focused on student retention and success.

  • Experience in budget management.

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.

Preferred Qualifications:

In addition to the aforementioned minimum qualifications, it is preferred the candidate also have:

  • Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in education, higher education administration or a discipline represented in the academic portfolio of the college.

  • At least 5 years of supervisory experience within related academic support services.

  • Experience at a public institution of higher education.

Additional Information:

  • This is a full-time, Management / Confidential position.

  • The salary for this position is $105,000 to $110,000.

  • This position offers full New York State benefits which are some of the most comprehensive in the country.
