Assistant University Tax Manager
The Assistant University Tax Manager will be primarily responsible for university sales tax compliance, collection, exemptions, registration, and remittance. This position will also assist the University Tax Manager with compliance on Federal and State income tax laws and regulations, along with excise, employment, property, and international tax. These responsibilities include issuing information returns and disclosures to third parties and educating campus personnel regarding tax matters. This position also supervises three of the Tax Office student employees and administers the university moving allowances policies and procedures.
What you'll do in this position:
University sales and excise tax compliance.
International tax withholdings and issues.
Moving allowances per policy and procedures.
Employment and property tax.
Unrelated business income tax.
Informational reporting and student supervision.
What qualifies you for this role:
Required
A firm commitment to the mission of BYU.
Bachelor's degree in accounting or other finance related field.
5 years of general accounting experience or 3 years of public accounting experience, OR the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred
Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
3+ years of tax and/or audit experience
Experience in the higher education environment.
Experience with sales tax compliance and related software.
Skills, abilities, knowledge, licenses, certifications:
Required:
Proficient in using advanced spreadsheet functions and in using online research databases.
Demonstrated ability to research, interpret, summarize, and apply tax principles.
Ability to simultaneously manage and coordinate multiple responsibilities and projects.
Needs the ability to work effectively with others individually and in groups or university committees.
Demonstrated verbal communication on complex topics with campus partners who have differing professional backgrounds and experiences.
