Team Gilbert has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated professional to fill the position of Assistant Town Attorney II - PD.
The Assistant Town Attorney II - PD reports to the Town Attorney. The primary function of this position is to represent the Town in public safety. This position provides independent legal advice to Fire Department staff and Police Department staff regarding criminal law and procedure, constitutional law, public records law, contract law, civil liability and other legal areas, researches changes in the law, implementing required changes and ensuring compliance, reviews documentation surrounding critical incidents to determine compliance with policy; and serves as a liaison with other department staff as required. The Assistant Town Attorney also provides legal advice and counsel to elected officials, Town management, and employees on major departmental issues and projects to assist decision makers with legal implications of decisions.

Juris Doctorate Degree graduation from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association;
7-10 years of experience in the practice of law, including some experience in municipal law or related area with an expertise in specialty areas of the practice of law, such as civil litigation, construction law, public utility law, land use law, real estate law, Police operations and POST certification, telecommunications and cable service providers, public rights of way, eminent domain, employment law, and other specialties;
Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
Licensed to practice law in the State of Arizona and membership in good standing in the Arizona State Bar Association (or licensed in a state with reciprocal jurisdiction with the Arizona State Bar and have the ability to be admitted to the Arizona State Bar by motion);
Ideal candidates for this position will have a minimum of five years of experience as a police legal advisor, prosecutor, public defender, criminal defense attorney, or equivalent legal experience with an emphasis on criminal justice, as well as be subject matter experts on the constitution as it relates to police issues, substantive and procedural criminal law, public records, and civil liability;
Possess excellent interpersonal skills and be team oriented: strong communicators verbally, in listening and in writing; known by their clients as creative problem solvers and collaborators; accessible and timely;
Valid Arizona Driver's License.
