Pay

This position is an exempt position at pay grade 310.

Attendance

Non-rotating 40-hour work week, Monday

  • Friday, 8:00 am

  • 5:00 pm; must be available to work additional hours as needed.

Overview

Under general administrative direction, is responsible for performing complex administrative and managerial duties as a member of the City Manager's Executive Team. Plans, directs, manages, and oversees the activities and operations of City Departments; and provides highly responsible and complex administrative support to the City Manager. Represents the City Manager and the City before a variety of boards, committees, special interest groups, community/neighborhood associations, media, business organizations, and other units of government.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of responsible and complex administrative duties and responsibilities in direct support of the City Manager; and recommends and administers policies and procedures.

  • Reviews and signs high level correspondence, including ordinances and contracts.

  • May coordinate the preparation of the weekly City Council agenda; reviews agenda materials for completeness and accuracy; works with departmental personnel to schedule matters for City Council consideration.

  • Coordinates the preparation of special reports, research, and studies concerning operational and/or administrative issues; prepares recommendations on results; and evaluates recommended organizational, policy or procedural changes.

  • Responds to difficult and sensitive complaints and information requests; routes inquiries to appropriate department for resolution; follows up and advises complainant of actions taken.

  • Participates as a member of the City Manager's Team and facilitates interaction between the City Manager's Office and City departments.

  • Acts as official representative of the City Manager and the City before a variety of boards, committees, special interest groups, community/neighborhood associations, media, business organizations, and other units of government; explains and justifies City programs, policies, and activities; and negotiates and resolves sensitive, significant, and controversial issues.

  • Attends City Council meetings and takes necessary action regarding Council agenda items.

  • Participates in the development and implementation of City goals, objectives, policies, and priorities.

  • Participates in meetings with Department Directors to review departments' goals and objectives to ensure alignment with city goals, objectives, policies, and priorities.

  • Meets with Department Directors to review and provide recommendations for their department budget.

  • Participates as a member of the City Manager's Management Team, reviews and recommends the proposed City budget.

  • Select, motivate, and evaluate assigned staff; and assists in implementing and administering, training and disciplinary procedures.

  • Coordinate, supervise, and oversees office support functions and personnel within the Office of the City Manager.

  • Performs other related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

  • Requires bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

  • Minimum of eight (8) years of experience

  • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Basis of Rating

Application review and the City may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.

  • Any position that lists a minimum qualification for education level and/or license/certification will require the applicant to provide proof of documentation if selected for hire into the position with the City of Corpus Christi.
