Job Description Details
The Assistant Technical Designer provides support across all categories in the Technical Design department. Categories include woven, knits, sweaters, tailored and outerwear across multiple brands. The role requires skills relating to fit and sample development through effective collaborative relationships. The Assistant Technical Designer will communicate directly with our domestic and overseas vendors to identify and resolve production issues. Day to day responsibilities include creating detailed technical illustrations and specs, editing and correcting paper patterns and conducting fits on live fit models. This position assists the Technical Designer in preparing fit sessions, data entry, and special projects as needed.
Supports with technical skills as directed by the Manager of Technical Design and Technical Designer.
Builds detailed tech packs to send to vendors utilizing designer's initial flat sketch and trim sheet as well as pattern & specific construction to create garments.
Supports product lifecycle from concept through final production approval.
Updates construction sketches in tech pack specifications.
Assists with preparation for Fit Sessions. Attends fit sessions and records notes for the Technical Designer.
Prepares samples for best presentation prior to fit or sample review.
Assists in analyzing garment construction, workmanship and analysis of pattern from vendor when needed.
Measures samples, compare construction and overall execution vs. tech pack requirement.
Participates in fit sessions with the goal of expanding knowledge and experience across all categories.
Records results on the appropriate forms to be used for fit sessions and report writing.
Minimum 2 year course completion in Technical Design or Design related studies
Bachelor's Degree in fashion design or closely related program
0-2 years industry experience
Understanding of Technical Design process and product construction
Strong patternmaking, grading, draping skills
Knowledge of garment construction and fitting skills
Ability to manipulate existing patterns as well as create new patterns
Strong computer skills (Adobe Illustrator, PLM)
Exceptional communication and presentation skills
Detail-oriented with excellent time management and organizational skills
Career-driven, strong work ethic and high performance standards; able to work in fast paced environment
Ability to multi-task, problem solve, and think outside the box
Excellent oral, written and telephonic communication skills
