Position Function:

The candidate must have knowledge of Criminlogy and will be expected to enhance the teaching mission of the Criminology and Sociology undergraduate majors and Sociology graduate degree programs through development and rigor of on-campus courses and distance courses. Start date will be either January 1, 2025 or August 16, 2025.

Salary Grade: UC

For salary grade UC, these positions are "Unclassified" and salary ranges are determined by the hiring department.

Department Profile:

The department has more than 400 undergraduate majors and 40 sociology graduate students with strong ties to the African American Studies Program, Gender Studies Program, the Social Science Research Center, the National Strategic Planning & Analysis Research Center, and the Southern Rural Development Center. Programs offered include BA, BSW, MS, and a Ph.D. in Sociology. http://www.sociology.msstate.edu

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

MSU offers BA degrees in Sociology and Criminology and MS and PhD degrees in Sociology, with graduate concentrations in Social Inequalities, Crime, Deviance, and Social Control, and Communities, Environment, and Health. Primary responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses depending on the needs of these programs, performing service activities, and serving on various department, college, and university committees.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Ph.D. in Sociology, Criminology, or a closely related field. ABD's will be considered if the degree will be completed by December 31, 2024 for a Spring 2025 start date or August 15, 2025 for a Fall 2025 start date.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience with instruction and course development. Previous experience with both lower-level and upper-level Criminology and Sociology courses.

Previous experience with both online and in-person courses. Interest in undergraduate advising, course scheduling, and undergraduate curriculum.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Candidates should be a dynamic educator with teaching experience preferred. Candidate should have interest in undergraduate curriculum and course scheduling.
