We are most interested in talking to applicants that have:

  • A High School diploma or equivalent

  • At least one year experience working in a licensed childcare facility

  • Flexibility as to the hours and schedule of work

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

Lincoln Prairie provides treatment to children and adolescents (ages 3-17) that present with a broad range of psychiatric and behavioral disorders. Lincoln Prairie offers an array of outpatient programs. We provide educational programs, enhanced Occupational Therapy services, Recreational Therapy, Art and Music Therapy, while utilizing a holistic treatment approach. We are seeking a Substitute Special Education Teacher to support Lincoln Prairie's mission. The Special Education Teacher is responsible for providing students with educational and behavioral programs that will enable them to reach their fullest educational potential, while rebuilding their self-esteem. The primary responsibilities of this position include: * Implement lessons and instructional materials to meet each student's individual needs. * Correlates learning activities with instructional objectives and with the maturity and academic level of each student. * Relates new content to material presented previously and to student's prior knowledge. * Specifies lesson purpose, learning objectives and activities to follow. * Asks questions that students can successfully answer and requires students to recall, explain, compare, contrast and evaluate information. * Gives clear assignments that allow students to apply what they have learned and that students can complete with a high degree of success. * Provides guided practice, circulating to check student's progress and provide assistance. * Provides feedback to students on class assignments and homework. * Completes education aftercare plan and forwards to patient's home school district as appropriate. * Sets up/maintains progress reports and education files for each student. * Reviews grades, progress reports, attendance records, discipline referrals, social history, psychological evaluations, hospitalization discharge summaries, etc. * Communicates effectively with parents/guardians, probation/parole officers, county health workers, etc. to enhance the learning process by responding to and/or initiating contacts in a timely, professional and constructive manner. * Continues the Individualized Educational Program (I.E.P.) during hospitalization and documents present performance levels. Job Requirements * Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college required. * Experience: Two (2) years teaching experience preferred. * Licensure/Certification: Valid State of Illinois elementary or secondary education teaching certification. State of Illinois LBS-1 Certification required or temporary waiver. Successful completion of CPR certification and the current patient aggression management training, including appropriate use of Seclusion and Restraint, within 90 days of employment. * Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of individual education programs, goals and objectives. Knowledge of educational and child development theories and classroom teaching/management strategies, with a good understanding of educational and therapeutic interventions. Demonstrate an understanding of child/adolescent growth and developmental stages. Ability to work efficiently and independently with treatment team members and outside liaisons. Effective oral and written communication skills. Skill in organizing and prioritizing workloads to meet deadlines. Must be a self-starter and goal/results-oriented. Ability to use good judgment and to maintain confidentiality of information. Microsoft Office and computer skills. Strong customer service skills to external and internal customers. Ability to adhere to safety policies and code procedures react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to accept direction and adhere to policies and procedures. Ability to work in a fast paced environment. Ability to recommend/take corrective courses of action that would improve the functioning of the department's systems. * Physical Requirements: Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Physical agility to manage patients with crisis prevention interventions. Push, pull and lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to use computer, printer, phone, and office supplies. Intermittent sitting, standing, walking, bending and stooping. Drug and alcohol free as evidenced by negative results of post-offer, pre-employment urine drug screen.
