Assistant Swim Coach

The Karishim Swim Club (KASC) of the JCC Greater Boston is looking for an Assistant Swim Coach. This position will play an important role in the JCC Greater Boston community, assuring program excellence and encouraging program expansion. The starting salary for this position is $23.05 - $25.50 per hour. The salary offered will ultimately be determined by the hours the employee will work, the scope of the position, the candidate’s relevant experience, and internal equity.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Prepare practices on a weekly basis based on the phase of training and swimmers’ needs/ability, maintaining a focus on technique, skill development, and athlete development
• Coordinate training methodologies, drills, and practice group goals with Head Coach
• Develop responsibilities of and rules for swimmers, coaches and parents, educating each group on these norms
• ensure open communication with parents to ensure education and communication on all aspects of long-term athletic development
• Collaborate closely with the Aquatics Staff and other coaches to promote the club as a whole
• Manage the recruitment, retention, and individual development plans for new athletes
• Provide assistance to Aquatics Head Coach with the overflow of administrative tasks
• Support JCC Greater Boston’s mission, values, and strategic goals
• Attend coach’s meetings (approximately 4-5/year)
• Contribute to overall organizational success

Requirements

• Must have a USA Swimming Coaches Certification or the ability to obtain coaches certification within the first 14 days of hire. Lifeguard, CPR/AED/ First Aid certification

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted at the JCC’s discretion to meet minimum criteria.

Skills & Abilities

• Prior coaching experience with athletes of all ages
• Maintain a good membership standing with USA Swimming and New England Swimming
• Able to exhibit strong, effective teaching/communication skills

• Knowledgeable of strokes and skill techniques
• Has knowledge of season/workout planning and dryland training/technique

Is able to:

Cognitive

• see, hear, and cognitively recognize situations requiring lifeguarding services
• make safety-related decisions
• communicate with community members and coworkers in person effectively, over email, and on the phone
• read, write, understand, and speak English

Physical

• work in a high temperature and high humidity environment for extended periods while wearing required personal protective equipment
• stand, sit, and lay on the pool deck while moving their body in a way similar to how the participants in the water should (demonstrating)
• lift up to 30 pounds
• vision requirements include the ability to read routine and technical documents, use a computer, and answer a telephone
• stand, walk, sit, stoop, and kneel frequently
