Assistant Supervisor

Summary:
Maintains ongoing residential effectiveness by assuring the administrative coordination of a variety of safety, therapeutic, and operational issues, and oversees daily administrative activities.
  • Collaborates with all staff and client families to accomplish the establishment and maintenance of a safe, effective milieu.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Understands and bases performance expectations on the differences in responsibility between Youth & Family Counselors I, II and III's.

  • Initiates resolution of compliance issues as they are identified.

  • Direct care of clients.

  • Provides administrative oversight and supervision by scheduling of staff, assisting the Residential Services Supervisor with supervision of relief staff and providing staff feedback as needed.

  • Connects and comments on relationship of training to current program issues.

  • Functions as a mentor by managing access to providing input to those being coached appropriately.

  • Works with families by demonstrating thorough understanding of the family-centered practice, communicating understanding of the systems, facilitating contact with the primary's family system and being personally familiar with all involved families.

  • Thoroughly understands and appropriately uses child care terminology including, therapeutic crisis intervention, behavior management, active listening, positive and negative feedback as well as systems in client and family centered practice.

  • Implement Case Management systems by maintaining communication with and contacting assigned case manager as needed, identifying the need for and managing interactions between client, family and case manager and facilitating appropriate professional relationships.

  • Implements supervisory directions.

  • Promote and maintain basic milieu practices regarding, structuring the environment (therapeutic and safety), safety, awareness, behavioral management and communication.

  • Directs and participate in therapeutic interactions, recreation, role in modeling and shaping appropriate behavior, role in carrying out treatment plan, assuring life space interviews are consistently integrated into daily milieu and assisting in physical interventions by following proper TCI procedures when involved in a restraint, including preventative behavior techniques prior to the intervention.

  • Direct, support, and participate in identifying, removing or reducing the likelihood of common safety concerns such as:
    1.Unsafe client behavior.
    2.Threats directed at self, staff, client family, or residential peers.
    3.Unsafe staff behavior including escorting clients between buildings alone or transporting clients.
    4.Acute milieu or environment situational dangers including sharps, meds, dangerous chemicals, detergents and cleaners as well as personal items of staff or clients which could become safety concerns such as, key sets, small penknives, mace, contents of a wallet which could include credit cards, addresses, etc.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Must maintain a valid state driver's license.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Supervisory experience a plus.

  • One (1) to three (3) years related experience working in the field required. Three (3) years is preferred.

  • Persons with lived experience in the Mental Health and/or Substance Abuse system are encouraged to apply.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Capable of leading and facilitating peer supervision groups and client support groups.

  • Ability to model objective observation and communication.

  • Successful demonstrated competence in all duties and responsibilities required of a Crisis Stabilization Counselor.

The Director oversees, facilitates, supports and demonstrates the organization's mission, vision, and goals/objectives with teams and as a representative to community partners. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Provides professional leadership to all direct reports. Supports staff by transmitting philosophical and technical knowledge/skills; teaching work management, communication, and conflict management skills; and determining when staff need to acquire additional skills for performance improvement. * Guides the work of staff through his/her demonstrated knowledge, experience, and program expertise. If supervising a volunteer, provides him/her with regular, professional supervision. * Actively monitors productivity expectations of the programs, implements as necessary interventions to address productivity deficiencies and keeps Senior Director aware of productivity outcomes. * Demonstrates competence in addressing interpersonal barriers and strengths in direct reports; cultivating job ability performance; empowering those supervised; using feedback in a constructive manner; and complying with employment and labor laws. * Involved in hiring direct reports and monitoring and continuously evaluating their performance to ensure effective recruitment, selection, orientation, and training of staff and volunteers. * Develops, implements, evaluates, and enforces policies, business rules, programs, standards, and management plans for the area(s) of responsibility and ensures that all are in compliance with accreditation, licensure, federal, state and local statutes and/or requirements.
