Qualifications:

Valid Georgia Certificate, L-6 or higher, or be eligible for proper leadership certification as set forth by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.

Five (5) years experience as a successful teacher, K-12 setting.

Five (5) years experience in educational leadership preferred, K-12 setting.

Thorough knowledge of systems planning and improvement.

Excellent skills in communication.

Ability to lead change in an educational setting.

Act on behalf of the Superintendent as directed.

Reports To: Superintendent

Supervises: Curriculum & Instruction Directors, Director School Improvement and Assessment, Coordinator of Federal Programs, clerical staff

Primary Job Goal:

To provide effective leadership and support of administration, teaching, and instruction to equip all students with the knowledge and skills needed for college and career readiness by delivering the designed state and local curriculum, aligning instructional practices, and assessing student achievement; and, creating learning environments that are safe and conducive to learning

Performance Duties & Responsibilities:

Provide leadership for continuous improvement in curriculum and instruction.

Evaluate central instructional staff and assist with the evaluation of principals.

Oversee the appropriation of instructional staff to align resources with needs and goals.

Plan and present instructional reports for the board of education to keep board members informed of all aspects of the instructional program.

Promote and supervise innovative practices in curriculum organization, instruction, and educational media.

Responsible for the organization and operation of staff development/professional learning for teachers and support staff.

Provide new instructional personnel with pertinent information regarding the vision, goals, objectives for the district. Facilitate new staff and leader induction.

Oversee the selection of textbooks for the system.

Ensure that all expenditures in curriculum and instruction are determined by deliberate planning and aligned with goals endorsed by the system.

Supervise the procurement and distribution of instructional resources.

Analyze, interpret, synthesize, and use data in decision making.

Keep abreast of current research in the area of curriculum development.

Promote the on-going evaluation of instruction and curriculum development.

Ensure that best practice for all policies related to curriculum and instruction are aligned with local, state, and national regulations.

Serve on the Superintendent's Cabinet.

Develop and administer the department budget in a fiscally prudent manner.

Prepare or oversee the preparation of all required reports and maintain appropriate records.

Review existing District policies related to educational support services and recommend revision when appropriate.

Ensure that a comprehensive curriculum management system is in place to direct the design and delivery of curriculum. Serve as technical advisor during the implementation of the curriculum management policy.

Coordinate the development of curriculum and instructional guides in all subject areas and all grade levels.

Develop a comprehensive program and student assessment program for all programs and curriculum.

Involve instructional staff in evaluating and selecting aligned instructional materials to meet student learning needs.

Provide for two-way communication channels with principals, teachers, staff, parents, and community.

Demonstrate skill in conflict resolution with administrators, parents, teachers, staff, and community.

Assist principals in monitoring the implementation of the curriculum.

Provide effective professional development activities that will facilitate the accomplishment of the mission and goals of the district, are planned based on student achievement data and program evaluations, and meet the needs of students and employees. Conduct district and campus professional development.

Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent.

Other Functions:

Daily attendance and punctuality are required for the purpose of ensuring the goals of the work unit may be met.

Working Environment:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: Lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling. Generally, the job requires 80% sitting, 20% walking, 10% lifting/carrying, and 20% standing.
