Duties

Position Definition: The Assistant Superintendent of Early Childhood and Elementary Curriculum & Instruction epitomizes educational leadership, propelling forward curriculum development and instructional strategies to maximize student achievement. This role is critical in aligning educational materials and assessments with the essential skills for success in college, careers, and life beyond school. Coordinates, defines and communicates integrated plans for the growth and development in all early childhood and elementary educational areas. Key responsibilities include overseeing data collection, analysis, and the utilization of technology to enhance skill demonstration, alongside fostering professional growth to meet and exceed district objectives. Serving as a pivotal District Cabinet Member, this position encompasses a range of policy areas, ensuring adherence and proactive engagement with necessary educational frameworks and standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Executes current plans with a vision towards future academic strategic plans in alignment with the district's mission plan.

  • Providing strategic direction and leadership for the academic team, which includes: adoption, support and implementation of district-wide core content curricula; teacher and school leader professional development and coaching; teacher and principal talent recruitment; assessment development and coordination; data collection; and more.

  • Operationalizes the existing and future academic vision and shows that a commitment to the continuous improvement of academic quality is paramount.

  • Directing the selection, adoption, and implementation of common, rigorous preK-12th grade curricula as well as the Partnership instructional model across the district to ensure that all teachers have the tools they need to help students achieve at the highest levels

  • Ensuring teachers and leaders have regular, curriculum-aligned, effective professional development and coaching

  • Supporting recruitment of teachers unwavering in their commitment to student achievement and with an appreciation and a respect for culture, identity, and values

  • Implement instructional programs with well-developed processes.

  • Ensure vertical and horizontal continuity and articulation of the instructional program throughout the District.

  • Plan and conduct visits to school sites to observe, monitor, and support Directors in their work with school leaders and also to further the understanding of the academic needs of buildings.

  • Direct and coach Directors in the following areas:

  • Systems to monitor and evaluate Principal and Teacher performance to improve instruction.

  • Development of operational leadership.

  • Data-driven instructional practices to analyze and improve student learning.

  • Use of financial resources, time, facilities, technology and partnerships innovatively and equitably to accomplish the goal of powerful teaching and learning for all students.

  • Personnel management including recruiting, hiring, and retaining high quality staff.

  • Development of instructional leadership capacity and individual growth and development.

  • Implement aligned instructional programs District-wide.

  • Other strategic planning, leadership, and instructional support as needed.

  • Perform all other tasks that are assigned by the Superintendent.

Qualifications

Education

Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with General Administrative or Principal endorsement

Significant and successful administrative Experience

5-7 years of experience as a teacher

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Knowledge

Knowledge of the School Board policies, procedures and standards regarding education.

Knowledge of the ethical guidelines applicable to the position as outlined by professional organizations and/or federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations.

Knowledge and skill in evaluation of administrators.

Knowledge of School Code requirements

Knowledge of District 300 labor agreements, Administrative Regulations and Board Policies.

Abilities

Ability to use computer-driven work processing, spreadsheet and file maintenance programs and software.

Ability to maintain complete and accurate records and statistics and to develop meaningful reports from them.

Ability to assess the effectiveness of programs and activities.

Ability to interpret educational policies and procedures.

Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of individuals, ranging from employees to parents of students

Ability to take the initiative to resolve problems without direction.

Ability to process large amounts of information and organize the information to present it to various individuals who do not possess firsthand knowledge of the situation

Ability to work well with other people in a team oriented environment

Ability to effectively lead a group of people in day-to-day activities, contributing to the accomplishment of organization and department goals as outlined in the district strategic plan.

Salary/Benefits

Salary and Benefits:

  • 261 days, including paid legal holidays

  • 25 vacation days

  • 12 sick days

  • 2 personal days

  • Monthly mileage stipend of $225

  • Life insurance

  • Doctoral tuition reimbursement

  • Level B - Salary Range: $140,304 - $151,870
