Description of Work

Salary Grade: GN12 Salary Range: $46,203 - $73,924

This position is located at Johnston Correctional Institution, Smithfield, NC, Johnston County.

Johnston Correctional Institution is a minimum custody male facility. This facility houses and provides services for a maximum of 640 inmates.

Work in this class involves assisting the Correctional Superintendent II in the management and operation of Johnston Correctional Institution. Operational complexities are enhanced by considerable inmate movement in support of a wide variety of programs, multiple locations, multiple populations and/or specialized services. This position is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Institution and supervises and manages the total custody section, including the food service operation and provides for the safety & security of the institution. This position serves as a member of the Management Team, and is in charge of the prison facility during the absence of the Superintendent.

required in order to be deemed "eligible" for the position therefore you must provide

  • Documented supervisory skills in a prison facility

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of supervisory, administrative or consultative experience in corrections or related work; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of experience at or above the Correctional Lieutenant level; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
