Assistant Superintendent Job Description

Assistant Superintendents primary role is to support the Superintendent with the day-to-day onsite construction activities, ensuring that safety requirements are being met, quality is maintained, and schedules are tracked and adhered to, to deliver successful projects to owners, on time and on budget. The Assistant Superintendent will assist with subcontractor scheduling and coordination, quality control, project and look ahead schedule review and administration of the Request for Information (RFI) process. Must possess good problem solving and communication skills along with understanding how risk is managed as it relates to Henley Construction and to the project. The ability to plan work activities, along with the ability to recognize safety concerns while promoting a quality and safety culture amongst out team, partners, and trade contractors.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Lead safety measures in all areas and trades and perform safety audit checklist.

  • May provide direct supervision of self-perform field personnel for work such as carpentry, concrete, demolition, general labor.

  • Maintaining miscellaneous materials that are required to sustain safety efforts and materials for self-performed work and coordinate the procurement of these items through the field office staff.

  • Responsible for accurately producing and distributing Daily Reports.

  • Responsible for maintaining awareness of shop drawing information and overseeing correct installations based upon the contract documents and shop drawings/submittals.

  • Assist in implementation and ongoing execution of Quality Control Program.

  • Participate in jobsite subcontractor and Owner/ Architect/Contractor meetings to keep abreast of schedule and potential changes to the work.

  • The Assistant Superintendent may be assigned a small project as the sole superintendent or assigned to close out a larger project during the final stage of the project.

  • The Assistant Superintendent may be assigned as sole superintendent during off-hour shift work on a project.

  • The Assistant Superintendent must have the ability to schedule work activities by producing look ahead schedules, along with working with the project team to update or create the project schedule.

  • Builds effective relationships with customers, design team, subcontractors, suppliers, and user groups that reflect and support company core values and meets or exceeds the customer's expectations.

  • Participates in industry, client, and community relations to enhance company image when required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Have a good working knowledge of all project documents, including specifications, plans, submittals, subcontracts, shop drawings, and any other project specific documents.

  • Implement and enforce the company's safety policies, site specific safety programs, and always promote a safety culture on the jobsite.

  • Able to clearly communicate by verbal, written, or electronic means to all members of the project team.

  • Demonstrate leadership skills and strategies for organizing all scopes, people, material, tools, and equipment to manage the project successfully.

  • Assist Superintendent with managing, overseeing, and documenting all daily activities on the project site.

  • Implement, maintain, and enforce the company's quality control plan.

  • Perform, upload, and maintain all company documentation requirements including, but not limited to, daily job reports, daily photographs, daily manpower reports, toolbox talks, progress plans, labor reports, etc.

  • Assist in weekly/bi-weekly coordination meetings.

  • Actively promote the company's growth and develop program to aide in the mutual benefit of the company's success and the employee's long-term career with the company. Demonstrate the ability to clearly communicate with the project team, project owners, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to achieve positive results.

  • Promote positive subcontractor relations by dealing professionally and fairly with all subcontractors and vendors.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

  • Willingness to travel in market based on project location.

  • Able to work in all elements of the outdoor environment which include the heat, cold, rain, snow, wind, etc.

  • Able to access all areas of the jobsite including stairs, scaffolding, ladders, elevation changes, etc.

  • Capable of working in physical positions that may include kneeling, sitting, standing, squatting, bending over, etc.

  • Must be able to move, carry, or position items weighing up to 75 pounds.

Computer/Technology

  • Proficient in the use of personal computers including iPad/tablet device.

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, Microsoft Word, Procore and related construction software.

  • Willing to learn recent technologies with provided training.
