Ferrum College, an NCAA Division III institution located in Ferrum, Virginia, is looking for a motivated, energetic and passionate individual to be our next Assistant Sports Information Director. This is a full-time, 12-month position that reports directly to the Assistant Director of Athletics/Sports Information Director.

Ferrum College is a proud member of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC). Ferrum College will be transitioning to Division II with Conference Carolinas in the Fall of 2025.

PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Assistant Sports Information Director (ASID) will serve as a primary media relations representative for several athletic programs, providing all sports information functions for those teams including record and statistical updates, printed materials, press releases and game stories, social media and web content, nominating students and staff for various conference and national awards, photography and the handling of general media requests. The ASID will also serve as the liaison to Institutional Advancement for athletic-related events.

Essential Functions:

  • Serve as a primary media relations representative for several athletic teams, providing all sports information functions for those teams including record and statistical updates, printed materials, press releases and game stories, social media and web content, nominating students and staff for various conference and national awards, photography and handling general media requests.

  • Assist with game day operations and student staffing for all athletic events held on campus, including statistics, scoreboards, broadcasters, camera operators and public address announcers.

  • Assist with scheduling and overseeing live video broadcasts of athletic events.

  • Assist with web site maintenance and athletic department social media efforts.

  • Assist in maintaining all conference, NCAA, etc. statistics and materials - in-season, career and historical, as well as assisting in the updating of team record books.

  • Publish content to the Athletics social media and webpages.

  • Increase the Ferrum College Athletics presence on social media platforms including

  • Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and any future platforms that are developed.

  • In collaboration with the Office of Institutional Advancement, assist with press releases, web site maintenance, videography, and athletic department social media efforts.

  • Support external engagement opportunities involving Ferrum athletics and our alumni/fanbase.

  • Assist with campus livestream events on an as needed basis.

  • Serve in administrative capacity as needed and directed by the Director of Athletics.

  • Serve on department and campus-wide committees as requested, as well as other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics and the Assistant Director of Athletics.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Oversight of student assistants for the sports information office.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

A bachelor's degree and experience in a collegiate sports information or athletics communication office is required. This position requires excellent organization, communication and public relations skills. The successful candidate must have excellent writing and editing experience, as well as the ability to meet deadlines.

Qualified candidates will have a proficiency with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop, StatCrew and/or Prestostats statistical software, Production Truck and SIDEARMSports web platform. The ability to learn and use streaming equipment and software applications for Ferrum athletic and campus broadcasts will be critical. An understanding of, and support for, Ferrum's transition from NCAA Div. III to NCAA Div. II is necessary.

Licenses:

  • Current and valid driver's license required.

Other Preferences:

The candidate must be able to work independently and have the ability to work occasionally on evenings and weekends throughout the year to accomplish the tasks necessary for success in this field. The successful candidate must be committed to working and teaching within an environment that embraces the development of students around their education, cultural diversity, mental health awareness and NCAA and ODAC compliance.
