ABOUT GALT

Incorporated in 1946, Galt is a growing community with over 26,000 residents located approximately 20 miles south of Sacramento along Highway 99 . The City is led by five elected council members, the Mayor being appointed.

The City of Galt is located in the heart of the Delta Recreation Area in Northern, California. Thirty minutes away are the Sierra Foothills and the Sacramento Delta. Reno, Lake Tahoe, San Francisco and the CA coast are all within a two-hour drive making Galt a recreational haven for boat lovers and outdoorsman alike.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Galt is currently accepting applications for

Assistant Special Events Manager.

ADDITIONAL PAY (UPON ASSIGNMENT AND ELIGIBILITY):

  • Longevity Pay- beginning at 15 years of service
  • 5%; 20 years of service 7.5%.
  • Bilingual Pay- $50 per month.

  • Medical-in-lieu- Employees who waive the City's medical coverage shall receive $200 per month for employee only, $350 per month for employee plus one, and $500 per month for family.

BENEFITS:

  • Tuition Reimbursement- Up to $4,000 per fiscal year.

  • Holiday Pay- 14 holidays; thirteen (13) paid holidays and one (1) floating holiday. Thirteen (13) fixed holidays observed: New Year's Day, MLK Jr. Day, Presidents Day, Cesar Chavez Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, Day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

  • Vacation Leave

  • 80 hours per year; after 4 years- 120 hours; after 10 years- 160 hours; after 15 years- 200 hours and after 22 years- 220 hours.
  • Vacation Credit- Those with 4+ years of prior public agency experience may request to accrue at rate of 120 hours.

  • Vacation Cash Out

  • Cash out up to forty (40) hours vacation per year.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general direction from the Special Events Manager. Exercises direct and general supervision over assigned staff.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS

This is a journey level classification that provides general administration and oversight of the Galt Market and City events and promotions. This classification requires excellent organizational, administration and communication skills. The incumbent is expected to assist with the organization and operation of the Market and City events, including tourism generating activities.

Management reserves the right to add, modify, change, or rescind the work assignments of different positions and to make reasonable accommodations so that qualified employees can perform the essential functions of the job.

  • Assist in the plan, coordination and execution of a wide range of events, including the Galt Market, Saturday Market, Lighting of the Night, Independence Day Celebration and other City events, including other tourism generating activities.

  • Assist with planning, organizing, recruiting and directing special events with an emphasis on attracting events that generate tourism in the City and provide a benefit to the local business community.

  • Interprets, monitors, and enforces laws, rules, policies and regulations; ensures vendor compliance with local and state licensing and permitting requirements.

  • Assist with event budgets and expenses tracking costs and providing regular updates to the Special Events Manager.

  • Oversee event setup and breakdown including managing staff and volunteers as needed.

  • Serve as a point of contact for event attendees, address inquiries and provide assistance throughout the event.

  • Assist with marketing and promotional efforts to increase event attendance and engagement.

  • Conduct post-event analysis and prepare reports for management, highlighting successes and areas for improvement.

  • Assist with the coordination of event health and safety, parking and traffic enforcement related to the Market and special events with local law enforcement, the County's health department and fire protection agencies.

  • Drafts reports and correspondence for market vendors, department management staff, City management, City Council, and other agencies.

  • Prepares and reviews event agendas and confirms that all services and necessary preparations are in order.

  • Assist with the grant application process related to special events and assigned projects. Solicit sponsor donations and/or assigned projects, if necessary.

  • Maintains logs and records of work performed.

  • Responds to emergency situations as necessary.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

  • On site management of all Saturday Markets and all City special events.

  • Help develop new initiatives to support the strategic direction of the Market and special events.

  • Promote special events and Market through preparation of editorial content for Market Manager and there promotional marketing material, social media and communication platforms.

  • General principles of risk management related to the functions of the assigned area.

  • Techniques for providing a high level of customer service by effectively dealing with the public, vendors, contractors, and City staff.

Ability to:

Supplemental Information

Education and Experience:

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

High School Diploma, and one (2) years of experience in a retail or wholesale environment, which must have included significant public contact, and budget administration.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Possession of a valid Class C California driver's license within 60 days of hire and have a satisfactory driving record.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment,

including a computer, to operate a motor vehicle, and to visit various City and meeting sites; vision to read printed material and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone. Standing and walking around the market or other events will be required. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment. Positions in this classification consistently bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information and set up for events. When working events, employees will be required to move tables, chairs, barricades and other equipment. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS

Employees work in an office environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions. . Employees work in the field and may be exposed to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, road hazards, vibration, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, and hazardous physical substances and fumes. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical and background investigation, including

fingerprinting. Must be willing to work evening, weekend, and holiday hours, and in all weather

conditions.
