Central State Hospital (CSH) is a 270 bed, Joint Commission accredited public psychiatric facility. The hospital serves individuals who are civilly committed and in need of treatment, and/or individuals involved in the criminal justice system who need treatment and/or pre-trial forensic evaluation.

In addition, CSH hosts the maximum security forensic program for the Commonwealth of Virginia. The facility is currently recruiting an Assistant Social Work Director to assist in leading the clinical and forensic operations of the Social Work Department. The Assistant Social Work Director is responsible for assisting in the coordination, monitoring, and implementation of clinical services.

The incumbent will assist in discharge planning. Additionally, the Assistant Social Work director will serve as a liaison to the community for patients at Central State Hospital to ensure successful discharges.

Minimum Qualifications

A master's degree in social work is required. The incumbent must by licensed or licensed-eligible in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Clinical Social Worker.

Must have the ability to: independently organize work, set priorities, and meet multiple deadlines; provide consultation to social work staff on qualification standards, social work practice, social work competency, social work productivity, and social work continuing education; and provide administrative and clinical supervision to include supervision for social work licensure. Must have knowledge of: legal, ethical, and professional standards applicable to social work practice; facility discharge planning and Community Service Board procedures; and skills in management to include supervision, consultation, negotiation, and monitoring. The incumbent must also have demonstrated global knowledge of social work practice in mental health care settings including resources, clinical services, and performance measures.

In addition, the Case Management Asst Director carries a reasonable workload as determined by the Case Management Director, and is responsible to assist in the development, planning, coordination and administration of the activities of Utilization Review and Discharge Planning. Including but not limited to daily review of medical records to determine appropriateness and medical necessity of admission, continued hospital stay and use of ancillary services. Education: RN or Licensed Social Worker Three years experience in Case Mgt or utilization mangement preferred. RN with at least one year of clinical experience on a Med/Surg unit with excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with all members of the health care team. Requires physical stamina and emotional stability. Experience: Min. of 3 years nursing or medical social worker experience required. Prior experience in UR or Case Mgt required. Some supervisory experience preferred. Licenses/Certificates: Registered Nurse licensed to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia or Compact Licensure. Preferred CCM or ACM Certification.
