The Assistant Signal Supervisor is accountable for all signal inspection, maintenance and repair activities necessary to comply with 49 CFR parts 234, 236 and KCSR Rules Standards and Instructions for all signaling apparatuses on the Gateway Eastern Branch. Assists the territory Signal Supervisor with trouble-shooting, problem identification and resolution of incidents to ensure signal equipment failures are repaired in a safe and timely manner to minimize delays in train traffic.
Supports the territory Signal Supervisor in response to accidents, activation failures, false clear reports, storms, derailments, casualty recovery efforts, damage to signal equipment, material acquisition and delivery of those materials.
Maintains all signal equipment on assigned territory, ensuring adherence to all safety protocols.
Manages maintenance of all wayside signal and crossing signal equipment to FRA standards and regulations.
Coordinates signal activity with other departments.
Maintains FRA mandated records related to signals.
Works with FRA Inspectors, state DOT inspectors, connecting railroads and signal suppliers.
Provides necessary safety training to crew and provides technical training as it pertains to signal equipment and signal systems.
Assists in implementing departmental and corporate safety goals.

High School diploma or equivalent
Minimum five (5) years of relevant operations experience, preferably in the railroad signal field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Specialist knowledge of one or more disciplines of railroad operations
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college, preferably in electrical engineering or a job related major field of study
Electronics courses at post secondary school, formal signal training, and hands on signal experience
Ability to assist field technical support
Knowledge of FRA signal compliance
