About the position.....

Our Melville Store is seeking an Assistant Seafood Manager to join its active team. Our Assistant Seafood Managers are responsible for the direct supervision of the Seafood Department operations including providing customer service and assuring that team associates are following company policies and procedures within the respective department.

Responsibilities

• Along with the Seafood Manager, the Assistant Seafood Manager is responsible for all aspects of the operation and supervision of the Department including, but not limited to: supervision of Department personnel; providing customer service; achieving sales, gross profit, labor, shrink and inventory goals set for the Department; product ordering, quality, presentation, merchandising, organization, pricing, stocking, shelf allocation, staffing, training, etc.

• Will filet fish, set displays, prepare all seafood

• Assist all customers with their seafood shopping needs

• Assure that all company policies and safety guidelines are adhered to at all times

• Other duties and functions as assigned

Requirements

• HS Diploma or equivalent

• Prior management experience within in a busy seafood department

• Must have experience working in a Seafood Dept fileting fish, knowledge of different types of fish, preparing seafood, cleaning seafood, setting displays

• Ability to develop and train team members, build relationships, utilize skills of team members most appropriately

• Ability to provide outstanding customer service

• Ability to communicate in a clear, concise, understandable manner, and listen attentively to others, understand material, and provide instructions to team members

• Ability to operate commercial kitchen equipment relevant to the job

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Working Conditions

• Most of the time is spent moving about continuously on hard surfaces. There may be a need to frequently position oneself to examine and/or scan merchandise, including bending, climbing, crawling, handling, pulling, reaching, and stooping.

• May require lifting objects up to 30 pounds. May require lifting and moving heavy and/or awkward objects more than 30 pounds with assistance.

• Usually in a comfortable indoor environment surrounded by moving machinery and/or loud equipment that may require shouting in order to be heard. There could be exposure to temperature extremes from freezers, ovens, and/or coolers.

• There may be occasional exposure to cleaning agents.
