The Opportunity:

The Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Rowing program is searching for a full-time Assistant Coach to help lead the Varsity IRA Men and NCAA Division II Women's programs. Both programs began competing at the varsity level in 2017 when the university transitioned to Division II after decades of success at the NAIA level across all sports.

This year, the program had its most successful year in its history with multiple notable wins for both the men's and women's teams, including a third-consecutive Sunshine State Conference championship for the women, 2024 Florida Intercollegiate Rowing Association Team Points Trophy for both the men's and women's teams, and three top podium finishes at the Head of the Schuylkill.

Essential Job Functions, and Duties:

  • The assistant rowing coach supports the head coach and is responsible for a variety of coaching, teaching, and recruiting issues, along with practice and race-day related functions as assigned by the head coach.

  • Provide instruction to rowing student-athletes on the fundamentals and strategies of rowing.

  • Assist in recruiting and retaining highly skilled student-athletes for the rowing teams.

  • Actively support and promote the NCAA's Life in the Balance strategic positioning platform, embracing the six ideals of learning, balance, resourcefulness, sportsmanship, passion, and service.

  • Assist in monitoring the academic progress of all rowing team members.

  • Maintain and manage team equipment.

  • Assist in securing advertisements, donations, and sponsorships to support the rowing program.

  • Assist with arranging for lodging and meals for team trips.

  • Assume duties of the head coach in their absence.

  • Knowledge, understanding, and ability to instruct sport-specific skills, techniques, and strategies.

  • Ability to lead, motivate, develop, recruit, and coach student-athletes at the collegiate level.

  • Understanding of the NCAA bylaws, rules, and regulations.

  • Public relations and fund-raising.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • (1-3) years of coaching experience at the junior and/or collegiate level
  • USRowing Coaching Certification (Level II)
  • Boater's License

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Requires the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a diverse group of constituencies.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of rules and regulations established by the various governing bodies related to intercollegiate athletics.

  • Trailer driving experience

  • Experience recruiting student-athletes to participate in athletics.

  • Developing and implementing successful fundraising programs

  • Experience with social media marketing and promotion
