PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:

Safely feeds corrugated sheets of raw material into a rotary die cutting machine at a consistent rate of speed and in accordance with machine standards and production goals. Assists Operator with the set up and operation of the machine to ensure high-quality packaging is achieved within customer specifications. Rotates daily responsibilities with other crew members including stacking off and labeling finished product. Serves as the back up Machine Operator when needed.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists with start-up and set up of machine and performs necessary machine adjustments ensuring precise measurements and proper alignments within the allotted time frame established for the specific job.

  • Reviews each job ticket and specifications; inspects raw materials and finished goods to make sure they meet quality and food safety standards; verifies raw materials for each job match the job ticket.

  • Safely gathers and feeds raw materials into rotary die cutter and print units in a safe and consistent manner to maintain product flow to achieve maximum capacity and efficiency

  • Rotates daily with other crew members to assist with stacking off finished product after the printing process which includes operation of shrink wrap tunnel and conveyor system, verifying skid counts and label information, and printing and adhering load tags to prepare completed jobs for shipment.

  • Actively performs all SCT Quality procedures and standards including required quality checks and sample pulls ensuring customer specifications and quality standards are consistently met; actively works with the crew to ensure quality of the product meets all standards and customer specifications.

  • Records productivity and information about the job within the manufacturing computer system, accurately completes production reports and records production data including start and stop times for all crew members, count of finished goods produced, and raw material used.

  • Reports all issues with equipment, dies, or raw material to supervisor or maintenance department.

  • Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and assists in repair of machine malfunctions; performs routine cleaning, and maintenance.

  • Follows all safety related policies, rules, regulations, technical instructions, and guidelines; uses situational awareness and actively looks for weak signals to identify unsafe behaviors and conditions; consistently wears appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) for the task at hand and within the assigned area; immediately notifies Supervisor of any unsafe condition that exists.

  • Communicates effectively with other team members throughout the shift and at shift change to share critical information necessary to perform the job safely and efficiently; collaborates regularly with Quality team to obtain necessary approvals and to ensure quality standards are consistently met.

  • Performs routine cleaning and assists with preventative maintenance (PM) duties of machine ensuring all PM's are completed on time as established in the PM schedule.

  • Actively seeks and adopts new updates and improvements to processes, new procedures, and innovations, which would add to the efficiency and safety of the operation.

  • Maintains a clean work environment in accordance with Food Safety and 5S program.

  • Assists other departments or positions with duties as assigned; will serve as a back-up to Operator as needed, or train on other machinery.

AUTHORITY: Must have the ability to lead a crew that has been placed with them to execute the demands of the operation efficiently and to respond to oral instructions from the supervisor/lead and written instructions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Three to six months of related experience within a production or manufacturing role; must have basic computer skills and possess ability to utilize software. Must have mechanical aptitude and skills.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must have the ability to read and understand documents, letters, etc. and write legibly in English. Must be able to understand and speak clearly, communicate, and understand directions in English as needed. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, vendors, and other Team members of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide both fractions and decimals, solve equations, read a tape measure, and have an understanding of both standard and metric measuring systems.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, regularly required to walk, stand, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with arms and hands. Frequently is required to climb, balance, twist, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Frequently lifts/moves 25 pounds, occasionally lifts/moves up to 50 pounds. Must be able to perform these functions for a minimum of 8 hours straight (with a 30-minute meal break any other applicable breaks during the shift) on a regular basis. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a Team member successfully performing the essential functions of this job. Regular attendance and reporting for work on time are necessary requirements as is availability for overtime work if necessary.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Exposure to a dusty atmosphere with loud noise, which will require both eye and ear protection. Frequently exposed to vibration and is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places. Moving mechanical parts will also be exposed; safety guards have been put in place for the safety of all Team members but during set up, the machine must be broken down and reassembled to complete the next job.
