Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Assistant Research Technician.
The applicant will be expected to be ambitious, highly motivated and well organized. The overall project centers upon DNA assembly in yeast and mammalian genome engineering.
The position will primarily be responsible for implementing techniques in molecular biology and genetics to support the project goals. A strong skill set in molecular cloning is required, as is experience with basic microbial growth and transformation techniques.
A basic to advanced knowledge of targeted endonuclease approaches (e.g. CRISPR/Cas9) is very useful. Generally speaking, applicants are expected to have mastered Genetics in college.
The applicant will receive advanced training in genome engineering on the job, in particular the assembly of synthetic DNA molecules, and will have plenty of room to grow these and other skills.

Job Responsibilities:
Implement standard and new generation cutting edge molecular cloning techniques to build custom plasmids for directed experiments in yeast and mammalian cell culture.
Perform standard yeast molecular genetic experiments (e.g. transformations to delete, mutate, or tag genes; grow yeast cultures) and characterize the phenotype of the resulting strains
Assembly of large segments of designer, synthetic DNA using yeast as a cloning tool.
Recover plasmids from yeast into E. coli, perform minipreps, and characterize by restriction digestion the genetic structure of the resulting constructs
Prepare resulting constructs and strains for next generation sequencing, and subsequently analyze obtained NGS data.
Minimum Qualifications:
This is an entry level trainee position with no experience necessary and a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Life Sciences or a related field is preferred. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $43,800.00 - $45,000.00 Annually.
Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
