  • Maximum: $51,305.00 Annually Department (OPH) WADS - Wadsworth Center Job Description: Responsibilities Health Research, Inc. is seeking an Assistant Research Scientist to work within the Wadsworth Center.

    The Assistant Research Scientist will join a highly interactive of team of researchers in a basic science research lab at the Wadsworth Center, studying mycobacterial gene expression, gene function, and signal transduction in experimental models. The incumbent will assist with performing experiments at the bench to grow and manipulate bacteria, using state-of-the-art genetic, molecular biology, and genomic approaches. The incumbent will be a part of a larger research community studying the molecular biology of infectious disease.

    This position will be part of a dynamic team serving the Wadsworth Center's mission in the New York State Department of Health's efforts to protect and promote the health of New York's citizens. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in biology, microbiology, molecular biology or a related field and one year of research experience; OR a Master's degree in biology, microbiology, molecular biology or a related field.

    Preferred Qualifications Experience working in a molecular biology or microbiology research laboratory. Expertise in molecular biology techniques (e.g. PCR, gel electrophoresis, plasmid purification, RNA isolation, plasmid cloning), and/or genetic manipulation of bacteria, or computational analysis of biological datasets.

    Conditions of Employment Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required. Exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved with this position.

    Therefore, the incumbent in this position may be required to wear personal protective clothing and equipment. This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting will not be available.
