Position Summary
The Assistant Registrar is responsible for leadership support in the daily operations of the Office of the Registrar. All student employees report to this individual. In addition to the training, supervision and evaluation of these employees, the Assistant Registrar has primary responsibilities for additions, deletions and changes to the permanent academic record following all the University academic policies and procedures.
This individual is the primary contact for student and Detroit Mercy staff issues as they relate to the Office of the Registrar and the functions that are completed by the staff within the office. They shall serve as a resource to students/parents, faculty and others regarding policy inquiries. The Assistant Registrar works closely with the college/school offices as it relates to the management of student records. The Assistant Registrar represents the AVP/Registrar or Associate Registrar, when not available.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Maintain academic records of enrolled students by posting degrees of students completing undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs following all academic policies and procedures.
Print in-house diplomas and duplicate diplomas.
Process change of grade forms and additions and deletions to permanent final grades. This may involve charges and/or adjustments to tuition and fees and communication with the Student Accounting Office
Manage the Office of the Registrar web pages in Cascade, work on the university catalogs and move the office forward with technological enhancements that serve our faculty, staff and students.
Hire, train and supervise work-study students.
Assist with processing registrations and transcript requests for those who visit the office.
Process registrations, prepare semester statistics and record final grades for Students participating in the Detroit Area Catholic Higher Education Consortium.
Process requests in National Student Clearinghouse for degree and enrollment verifications.
Member of university committees and other duties as assigned by the Registrar.
Represents the Office of the Registrar during orientations and college meetings as needed.
Assists students and faculty in the use of My Portal for a variety of functions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The Assistant Registrar should demonstrate proficient computer skills, database knowledge, customer service training, knowledge of Microsoft Word, Windows, and other software with experience with Ellucian's Banner system. Must have the ability to adapt quickly to changing technology.
The position requires strong oral and written communication skills; interpersonal skills; and organizational skills with a commitment to providing excellent service to students, faculty, staff and alumni. The person in the position should have experience in higher education which would demonstrate an understanding of higher education processes. The person in the position should have a working knowledge of Registrar policies and procedures with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
It is important that this individual have the ability to work independently on multiple tasks while maintaining a high level of accuracy. It is normal that this individual is handling multiple issues while managing their own work as well as the work of others.
Physical Requirements
Job may require lifting light weight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping. Occasionally lift average weight objects (1 to 10 pounds).
Work Environment
Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office.

Commensurate with experience
Anticipated Schedule
Monday to Friday 8.30 AM to 5.00 PM (Some weekend or alternate business hours may be required.)
In the absence of either of the full-time staff members within the office, the Assistant Registrar will assist with performing the daily duties of those positions when needed.
