Position description

We seek an experienced scientist to advance our research at the University of California, Los Angeles Department of Neurology in the laboratory of Dr.

Geschwind. Salary range for this position is $71,500 - $91,000.

The Geschwind Laboratory is dedicated to improving the understanding and treatment of neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative conditions, focusing on

autism spectrum disorders (ASD), dementia (frontotemporal dementia and progressive supranuclear palsy), and repair of the damaged nervous system. To

accomplish this, we leverage the fields of genetics and genomics, coupled with basic neurobiology, to obtain a systems level understanding of disease. The

successful candidate will be responsible for supervising graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and undergraduate student researchers, preparing

manuscripts for publication in scientific journals, and assisting with the preparation of grant proposals.

Specific Responsibilities

Responsibilities of this position include study design, transcriptomics and epigenomics data acquisition and analysis, statistical computation, and literature

review and manuscript/grant preparation. This includes ability to work with the PI to analyze transcriptomics, epigenomics and single-cell genomics data,

knowledge in experimental models of nerve injury and repair, and work closely with senior faculty and the PI supervising teams of technicians and students to

complete the multidisciplinary tasks involved in each study (breeding appropriate number of animals, randomization, scheduling of treatments and inoculation,

tissue collection and processing, and DNA libraries for sequencing). The scientist is expected to submit at least one career training grant by the second year and

assist in grant preparation as a co-investigator the first year.

Qualifications

Applicants must have a PhD or MD or both. Ideal candidates will have a strong background in the following areas: transcriptomics, epigenomics, computational

analysis, rodent surgery and injury models

Applicants must have experience with molecular biology techniques, the use of flow cytometry, immunohistochemical, animal behavioral assessments, and

statistics. Prior experience with preclinical models of neurodegeneration is preferred.

Additional Duties

• Ability to work on multiple projects efficiently and effectively.• Ability to work independently on scientific projects• Required to communicate well with

other scientists.• Candidate should have 5 years research experience in neuroscience in an academic setting or equivalent. • The candidate will report directly

to the Principal Investigator and will successfully carry out experiments and analyze the data generated with minimal supervision.
