As TriMet grows and expands, the demand for repair, replacement and modification to different vehicle engineering elements has grown as well. The Vehicle Engineering Department, within TriMet's Capital Projects and Construction Division, manages the development, design and construction of rail vehicle procurements, retrofits and associated vehicle engineering capital projects. The team works closely with TriMet rail maintenance, rail transportation, safety, capital projects and program management departments to ensure successful delivery of projects. The department consists of a focused and talented group of technical and project management professionals seeking to serve the public and uphold TriMet values while promoting the career growth and work-life balance of its team members.

Using a client-focused project management approach this department ensures each project is of the highest quality and is delivered in a safe, cost-effective, and timely manner. Projects in this department can vary in nature, size and in funding sources, which may be through grants, TriMet's general fund or a combination of both. Partnering with stakeholders from inside and outside the agency, project managers in this department advise on project development and manage all aspects of the delivery phase including design procurement, the design process, budgets, schedule, internal and external approvals, construction procurement, construction management and turnover.

We are seeking an Assistant Project Manager to work alongside a diverse group of project managers and engineers to assist in the delivery of a portfolio of vehicle engineering projects. Projects vary in scope and scale including tasks such as vehicle acquisitions or retrofits, developing work instruction for vehicle component rebuild or modification, design efforts for reverse engineering obsolete components and evaluating vehicle performance. The work will include collaboration with the internal and external stakeholders, consultants and contractors to work collaboratively to successfully deliver quality vehicle engineering projects.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide technical services in support of TriMet's Vehicle Engineering Department. This includes work related to the design, construction, maintenance and operations of rail vehicles including their electrical and mechanical systems and components.

  • Review product and vehicle design submittals. Evaluate material selection for compliance with contract requirements and TriMet criteria. Prepare prescriptive comments for remedial action by others. Any design work will be performed under the supervision of a Professional Engineer, licensed in the State of Oregon.

  • Assist in the preparation of procurement documents for rail vehicles, system installations and equipment.

  • Monitor contractor performance and contractor provided installations and equipment on rail vehicles. Monitor and document daily progress and report on quality of work. Lead or assist with contract administration for management of projects.

  • Witness, perform and document testing of various rail vehicle system installations and equipment. Troubleshoot problems that occur during testing.

  • Assist in the design, installation, and testing of changes to existing rail vehicle system installations and equipment.

  • Assist in documenting safety certification of rail vehicle system installations and equipment.

  • Prepare engineering analyses, write technical reports, and make recommendations, as assigned.

  • Maintain engineering records and project technical files.

  • Evaluate the electrical, mechanical and electronic design of rail and bus vehicles to determine performance, reliability and maintainability.

  • Evaluate test equipment and electrical, mechanical, and electronic control systems for rail vehicles to determine performance, reliability and maintainability.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 6 years total credited experience with 4 years as a competent, practicing project manager, or engineer and 2 years of experience in an area directly applicable to passenger rail vehicle and/or systems engineering or transportation projects.

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Registration from the State of Oregon as a Professional Engineer (or ability to obtain within 6-months) and/or certification as a PMP is highly desired.

  • Transportation, light rail or bus transit experience.

  • Experience in large scale projects/programs.

Minimum:$70,415.00

Midpoint: $88,019.00

Maximum: $105,623.00

In addition, we are organized as a diverse multi-disciplinary team including individuals with engineering, architectural, interior design, and construction management backgrounds. We are seeking a project delivery professional to join the Building Department to work on a diverse group of projects throughout the design and construction phases. They will be expected to manage the design and construction phases of multiple concurrent projects. The projects vary in scope and scale and can include work in tenant improvements, MEP upgrades, new construction, site development and maintenance. We do the work that keeps our existing facilities functional, and we develop new facilities for continued operational growth. Essential Functions 1. Provide project management services including as assigned architecture, landscape architecture, urban design, planning, engineering and sustainability knowledge disciplines, in developing conceptual and detailed design of LRT & related facilities in the Portland metropolitan area, including preparation of designs, calculations, cost estimates, environmental impact data, documentation and public presentation material. All design work is performed under the supervision of a design professional or Professional Engineer, licensed in the State of Oregon. 2. Perform field work to become familiar with project areas. Conduct survey tasks to update project mapping. 3. Prepare work scopes for staff and consultant tasks. Assist with the procurement and administration of consultant services. 4.
