Assistant Programmer Salary: $21.75 - $34.62 hourly Job Type: Contract Department Name: 2060-ASIAN AMERICAN STUDIES CENTER Department Website URL: Job Summary Statement: Under the direction of the Information Technology Coordinator, the Assistant Programmer will assist and support the programming team to develop, implement and maintain critical web based, CMS, and database-driven custom applications and websites.

Nearly all the applications were written from the ground up and are custom-designed for the Center. At any given time, the incumbent will need to work on several ongoing programming projects simultaneously. Some projects will be small and internal, while others will be complex involving multiple internal and external partnerships.

The Assistant Programmer is expected to participate in development and technical discussions and assist in the development of complex web applications. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following; assist in programming and coding front-end and back-end applications (full stack development); develop custom (not limited to) HTML/CSS/JS/jQuery/PHP/MySQL code base; customize content management systems and learning management systems; develop using php/MySQL; code documentation; create wireframes, mockups, and workflows; integrate appropriate frameworks and security protocols. 17 Records Qualifications Required/Preferred

Three or more years of experience developing secure and complex programs using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX, JSON, PHP and SQL.


Skilled in object oriented programming methods and concepts including experience with frameworks.


Ability to design programs to ensure optimal performance and usability; ability to conduct application/program analysis to improve performance and responsiveness.


In-depth knowledge of website design, CMS frameworks, development, and maintenance using applicable languages such as HTML5, CSS3, SASS, Bootstrap, JavaScript/jQuery, gulp.js, node.js, and PHP.


Ability to work under minimal supervision. Ability to establish priorities for assignments when faced with heavy workload and pressure of deadlines. Ability to switch activities and priorities quickly.


Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve in standard, non-standard, conflicting and/or unexpected circumstances.


Ability to write well-organized technical documentation and training materials for both experienced and novice users.


Ability to evaluate hardware and software, devise benchmarks, draw comparisons, and write reviews.


Ability to manage time and priorities so that projects or tasks are completed on time.


Demonstrate excellent organizational skills and ability to effectively track many projects simultaneously and ensure the completion of all in a timely manner. Ability to establish priorities for assignments when faced with heavy workload and pressure of deadlines.


Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Science (or related) or equivalent relevant professional experience and training.


Ability to work effectively with colleagues, faculty, stakeholders and subject matter experts; develops and maintains positive working relationships.


Demonstrate excellent technical, analytical, debugging and problem-solving skills with self-motivation and willingness to learn new concepts, technologies, and processes.


Ability to make oral presentations and provide training to users on a variety of levels on use of relevant software and hardware.


Knowledge of web security issues, and ability to implement them in a heterogeneous computing environment.


Working knowledge of UI/X standards, practices, and principles regarding the design and production of websites.


Working knowledge and experience in implementing Search Engine Optimization (SEO) for websites.
