BASIC FUNCTIONS:| This is a full-time position, 9-month academic year, beginning August 1, 2023.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITY:

The position requires teaching 200-, 300- and 400-level hands-on courses in Photography for Social Media, Photojournalism, Digital Photography and Practicum / Internship courses. Frequent course-related field production assignments and ad-hoc production projects are expected. Additional responsibilities include maintaining and updating the photography equipment located in the Media Center and photography lab, as well as mobile media kits, and Mass Communication Mac Lab. This position is expected to advise 10-15 Mass Communication students per semester as well as to serve as an advisor of a student organization.

This position works closely with students, faculty, and visitors personally and via phones and e-mail and has many interruptions throughout the day. Ability to manage flexible situations, ability to successfully relate to students of diverse backgrounds and commitment to the College's mission and vision are required for successful candidate. The position offers a unique opportunity to leave a mark on the life of various student populations and other constituencies of an HBCU institution. We are looking for a motivated, creative self-starter with a track-record of professional excellence and the ability to effectively build and maintain the infrastructure of a student broadcasting station and social media channels.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Education

  • At least a Master's Degree (Instructor) or a Ph.D. degree (Assistant Professor) in Photography, Photojournalism, Visual Media or similar

  • Ph.D. or MFA preferred

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in photojournalism with a portfolio of photography samples

  • Proficiency with the latest versions of Adobe Creative Cloud

  • Ability to transfer knowledge in class and field projects across learning modalities and incorporating students with disabilities in an engaging and inspiring manner

  • Demonstrated ability to relate to all students and colleagues
