Located just outside of Seattle, WA, Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) was founded in 1949, and is the only public institute of technology in the state of Washington. LWTech offers 12 bachelor's degrees, 42 associate degrees, and 70 professional certificates in 41 areas of study, including STEM-focused programs in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The programs offered at Lake Washington Institute of Technology's (LWTech) School of Business prepare students for successful business-related careers. Programs offered in the School of Business are for people who are interested in the operational areas of business, including but not limited to, Entrepreneurship, Business, Accounting, Human Resources, and Transportation, Logistics, and Supply Chain.

SUMMARY OF POSITION

This is an Annual Renewable position with the possibility of converting to a Tenure Track.

Lake Washington Institute of Technology is recruiting for a full-time in-person (non-tenure track) Faculty Director and instructor to lead and teach the business and entrepreneur associate and bachelor's degree programs.

  • Lead the program as the Faculty Director

  • Accept an ownership stake in developing and enhancing the curriculum for the courses in the entrepreneur and business programs

  • Design learning experiences for the unique characteristics of individual adult students through classes, individual instruction, and self-directed learning

  • Convey expertise, passion, and innovation in teaching Business, Entrepreneurship, and related courses

  • Identify individual learning needs of students and make appropriate adjustments

  • Develop and Lead the DECA team, which includes coaching DECA students

  • Support current and recruit new advisory committee members to gain buy-in from local employers and generate positive word of mouth for our program

  • Participate in college initiatives such as guided Pathways and EDI

  • Participate in professional development activities related to industry and the college

  • Serve on faculty hiring committees as assigned

  • Using a Learning Management System, specific Canvas

  • Able to effectively use computer programs (Microsoft Office Suite, Google applications, video conferencing platforms, etc.)

  • To teach in person during the day and possibly in the evening

  • To teach both online asynchronous and synchronous

In addition, full-time faculty will also:

  • Maintain regular office hours; participate in department and division meetings

  • Develop curriculum and develop and assess program and educational outcomes.

  • Perform advising, recruiting, and retention activities

  • Take part in college accreditation, program accreditation, program review, and college committees as specified in the faculty bargaining agreement

  • Be available on some evenings or weekends to assist with college-related activities and functions

  • Master's degree or higher from an accredited institution in Business, or related discipline. The education should reflect specific training in business.

  • A minimum 5-10 years of relevant industry or professional work experience in business.

  • A minimum of 1-2 years of teaching or structured training experience

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience using multiple modalities for instruction, including traditional, hybrid, and online course development and delivery

  • Ability to encourage and facilitate the learning of students and colleagues from diverse backgrounds and academic readiness

Preferred Qualifications

  • Managerial experience

  • Experience as an entrepreneur and business owner

  • Previous participation in DECA either as a student or as a DECA advisor

  • Industry certifications

  • Demonstrated ability to network and build connections within the business community

Compensation & Work Schedule

This position is for the 2024-2025 Academic year and begins September 2024. Placement on the faculty salary schedule is based on an individual assessment of education and experience.  This positions ranges from $74,028-$87,146  per year; salary is for an academic year (173 days) and as may be adjusted according to the faculty bargained agreement. Summer quarter employment may be available based on student enrollment. This is a full-time, Annual Renewable position with the possibility of converting to tenure track.
