Position Qualification

Position Summary

The University of Nebraska Medical Center Department of Pediatrics, Division of Child Health Policy, is seeking to fill a faculty position to increase its research portfolio around translation research on infant mortality. This faculty member will conduct research in Maternal and Child Health epidemiology areas of assessing existing sources of data that can be used to assess population health and identify disparities, advancing methods for analyzing data to support science-based decisions in public health practice; provide training and technical assistance to public health practitioners in identifying appropriate evidence-based practices, evaluating programs, and assuring data-driven decision making; and teach interns, students, and residents in the Department of Pediatrics.

Requirements include a Ph.D. and significant expertise (15+ years) in fetal, infant, and child health, as well as epidemiology, biostatistics, and research methods. Examples of Work In this position, you will serve as a case manager for families referred to the Department of Health and Human Services in our Omaha Local Office and surrounding area. As a Child and Family Services Specialist, you will: * Investigate allegations of abuse/neglect, visit homes, conduct safety assessments, establish safety plans, and initiate court interventions. * Develop, implement, and evaluate treatment plans, authorize, coordinate, and provide family services. * Prepare cases with appropriate legal staff and testify in court. * Develop community resources; work with schools, law enforcement, and mental health providers; inform the public of protection and safety services. * Perform crisis intervention. * Prepare documentation, correspondence, and court reports. * Casework may be with children/juveniles who have been adjudicated as delinquent or status offenders. Promotion to Child & Family Services Specialist will occur after successful completion of required classroom and on-the-job training programs. Qualifications / Requirements REQUIREMENTS: A Bachelors degree in social work, psychology, sociology, counseling, human development, mental health care, education, criminal justice or other closely related area. Consideration will be given to applicants who will receive a Bachelor's degree within 90 days of open position closing date. OTHER: Valid driver's license or the ability to provide independent authorized transportation. Travel may be required dependent upon caseload location. Transportation will be provide dependent upon case load location. PREFER: Experience in child welfare and/or case management experience, internships with human services/child welfare agencies will also be considered, demonstrated ability to provide excellent written and verbal communication, and ability to effectively manage time and deadlines. Experience with SDM (Structured Decision Making) a plus. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Family life issues and dynamics; community services; child adolescent and adult behavior. Skill in: Interviewing clients to collect and elicit essential information and assess client's needs and progress; openly and honestly discussing concerns with others in a non-judgmental way.
