Job Summary:

The nursing faculty is an employee member of the University who has been appointed to one of four academic ranks: Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential:

Teaching duties and/or other duties (academic administration, advising, practice, service) according to the percentage of a full-time equivalent (FTE) of the faculty's contract.

  • Fulfills the duties and responsibilities of a faculty member.

  • Meets or exceeds the criteria for the applicable academic rank as detailed in the Rueckert-Hartman College for Health Professions (RHCHP) Faculty Handbook.

  • Participates in activities and responsibilities of the School, College, and University committees.

  • Adheres to policies and procedures of the University, College, and School.

  • Maintains professional competence, current licensure requirements for position, BCLS certification and appropriate certification as needed for specialty.

  • Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with other faculty members and staff of the University.

  • Maintains professional behavior and positive relationships in the internal and external communities associated with Regis University.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Faculty workload includes the following areas, detailed in the Rueckert-Hartman College for Health Professions (RHCHP) Faculty Handbook:

  • Teaching workload (including ongoing responsibility for curriculum development and planning, teaching, guiding, monitoring, and evaluating student learning in the classroom, skills / simulation laboratory, clinical agencies, Service Learning setting, and/or online);

  • Advising workload;

  • Non-teaching workload;

  • Scholarship;

  • Service to the institution; and

  • Community service.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education, professional licensure, and experience: (Necessary for essential duties)

  • A graduate degree in nursing, or if a graduate degree in a field other than nursing, a bachelor's degree in nursing and demonstrated evidence that the graduate degree is in a field relevant to the areas of responsibility. Doctoral preparation in nursing or a related field is preferred.

  • An active license in good standing to practice as a registered nurse in Colorado. Effective July 1, 2007, an active license in good standing includes registered nurses practicing pursuant to the terms and condition of the nurse licensure compact and the requirements set for in the state of Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies, Division of Registration, Board of Nursing, Chapter II Rules and Regulations for Approval of Nursing Education Programs.

  • Nurse Practitioner Faculty must be board certified in appropriate NP specialty.

  • A minimum of two years of full-time, or equivalent, professional nursing clinical experience;

  • Documented knowledge and skills related to the teaching of adults, teaching methodology, curriculum development and evaluation (or a written plan, submitted to the Colorado State Board of Nursing for obtaining such knowledge and skills. Acquisition of these skills must begin no later than during the first year of employment); and

  • Proven or presumptive potential for fulfilling the responsibilities of a faculty member.

  • Knowledge of the art and science of nursing and the essentials of baccalaureate and masters-level nursing education

  • Demonstrated knowledge in teaching and learning theories, instructional principles and practices, and curriculum design

  • Knowledge of leadership and team building

Abilities: (Application of knowledge, i.e., intensity, duration, frequency of mental capabilities needed to perform tasks)

  • Teach using a variety of teaching modalities

  • Develop and/or modify course structure and content for given student populations and learning environments

  • Evaluate course delivery

  • Advise students

  • Mentor faculty

  • Use Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, Web-browser, personal information management software, advising, and information management software

  • Work to deadline

  • Lifting & Carrying: Occasional lifting and carrying - essential

  • Pushing & Pulling: Access files and other materials - routine

  • Sense of Touch: Able to use computer and office equipment, communicate in person, and write; Specific courses may have additional requirements

  • Hearing: Able to communicate in person and on all audio devices; Specific courses may have additional requirements

  • Vision: Able to use computer and office equipment; observe people; write and read a variety of printed, handwritten, and digital materials; evaluate written, printed and digital materials; drive a car

  • Mental: Mathematics (Counting, adding, subtracting etc.)

  • Use a standard calculator, calculate percentages, basic understanding of budgeting, statistics, data, graphs, charts, and other data represented numerically

  • Ability to recall procedures and policies

Language Ability: (Reading, writing, speaking)

  • Strong oral and written communication skills required

Reasoning: (Judgment and decision making)

  • Critical thinking and strong decision-making skills essential

Other requirements: Must be able to travel by car and by airplane

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Ranked faculty are hired on variable FTE Faculty Contract. Holiday and leave vary according to FTE. All leave (unpaid, professional, and service) is planned with the School in order to ensure effective year-round operation of the School's nursing education programs.
