Suffolk University's Institute for Public Service, within the Sawyer Business School, invites applications for the Tenure Track Assistant Professor position beginning the 2018-2019 academic year.

Complete applications must be received by January 15, 2017. Position availability is subject to funding.

We are seeking candidates with the following:

Required Qualifications:

  • The completion of a PhD or near completion (ABD) of a doctorate in public administration, organizational behavior, or a related field.

  • Evidence of strong teaching and research potential.

  • Ability to teach core courses

  • Candidates should be able to teach and perform research in two or more of the following areas of our curriculum: nonprofit management, human resource management, research methods and citizen engagement. The Institute for Public Service awards the graduate level Masters in Public Administration (NASPAA accredited) degree.

  • Previous practitioner experience and a strong interest in practitioner collaboration are preferred.

This is a three-year, 9-month position, with opportunities to teach in the summer. This appointment will support the master's degree program in Higher Education Administration (HEA) within the Educational Leadership and Policy Studies (ELPS) Cluster in the Boston University School of Education. The Higher Education Administration program has provided advanced graduate preparation to hundreds of university administrators for over twenty-five years. The program consists of both a smaller, full-time cohort model and a larger, part-time community, comprised of full-time professionals working in higher education. By seeking to work at Boston University, this Clinical Assistant Professor will become an integral team member in the HEA program, with rich opportunities for individual growth in teaching and service and for broader contributions to the unique and abundant higher education environment in Boston. Job Description * Develop and teach residential and online courses for master's students in various aspects of higher education administration and leadership, such as: history, current issues, legal issues, strategic planning, student affairs, governance and decision-making, and other related topics. * Recruit and advise one-third of the enrolled HEA master's students (approx. 20-30). * Collaborate with SED faculty and staff on marketing, outreach, admissions, graduate assistantships, and other efforts related to recruitment, retention, and matriculation of HEA master's students. * Partner with ELPS cluster faculty on departmental initiatives, including course scheduling and sequencing, annual reports, assessment measures, etc. * Engage in external service activities that generate visibility on a regional and national scale through presentations, engagement with national organizations, etc. * Offer program leadership and support as needed. * Serve on SED or BU committees as appropriate. Required Skills Required Skills: * Earned Doctorate in Higher Education, Educational Leadership, Educational Policy, Student Affairs, or a related field, with a strong record of academic and scholarly accomplishment * Demonstrated scholarly interests, specifically in the field of higher education, and ability to assume teaching responsibility for a full-time course load within the Higher Education program; experience teaching in residential, hybrid, and online format is preferred * Significant leadership experience in institutions of higher education; involvement with multiple functional areas is preferred * Demonstrated understanding of, and engagement in, the field of higher education including engagement with state, regional, or national organizations * Demonstrated commitment to social justice, including expanding access and opportunity for all individuals and an appreciation of the important role of colleges and universities in our society. * Motivation to teach in an on-line program in higher education administration.
