The Department of Engineering and Engineering Technology (EAET) at Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU Denver) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position effective in the 2020-2021 academic year. The department is seeking civil engineer candidates with expertise and interest in research and teaching in one or more of the following areas: architectural engineering, construction management, geotechnical engineering, hydraulics, hydrology, and water resources.

The University is particularly interested in applicants who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for under-represented groups.

Duties/Responsibilities

This position will be requested to teach a minimum of 24 credit hours (or equivalent) per academic year and maintain minimum of 5 office hours per week to include advising and consultation with students. In addition to teaching, the position will require being active in engineering technology professional societies and activities, engaging in professional development, scholarly activities, applying current technical computer language/software and using other technologies in the classroom.

Candidates will be expected to teach in the classroom as well as in the laboratory setting. The department is seeking civil engineer candidates with expertise and interest in research and teaching in one or more of the following areas: architectural engineering, construction management, geotechnical engineering, hydraulics, hydrology, and water resources. Selected candidates will have the opportunity to join a vibrant and growing department.

Full time faculty members are also required to provide service to the department and institution by participating on committees, academic advising, contributing to course and program development, assessments related to accreditation, update course curriculum and contribute to course development. The successful candidate must have the ability to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse urban population that includes U.S. ethnic minorities and/or women.

Required Qualifications

Have earned (or will complete by August, 2020) a PhD in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications
1.Indication of ability to contribute to the teaching mission of the university, college, and department.
2.Expertise in one or more of the following areas: hydraulics, hydrology, architectural engineering, construction management, geotechnical engineering, and water resources.
3.Demonstrated strong research interest within the applicant's area(s) of expertise.
4.Proven strong communication skills.
5.Commit to support service and diversity initiatives at the university, college, and department levels.

Description of Job GENERAL SUMMARY The Computer Information Systems (CIS) department is devoted to teaching current, and in-demand skills in computing technology. Because of this, the department is dynamic and continuously adapting to meet the needs of the CCD community. To meet our community needs the CIS department offers instruction in a multitude of areas including, Hardware, Software, Networking, Cyber Security, Data Analytics, Programming, IT in Healthcare and IT management. The CIS Cybersecurity Assistant Professor reports to the CIS Faculty Chair, and works collaboratively with other discipline faculty. The primary purpose of this position is to teach Computer Information Systems courses. Regular faculty teach assigned classes in accordance with established guidelines and policies, participate in advising, committee assignments, other academic and institutional support activities, and supervisory responsibilities as assigned. Effective interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills are essential. CCD seeks faculty with strong teaching skills to engage its diverse students using an array of instructional methods and tools. The college encourages creativity and supports faculty implementation of innovative methods to improve student learning. CCD's rigorous learning environment fosters a community of life-long learners who demonstrate critical thinking, cultural competence, and ethical responsibility. PRIMARY DUTIES The CIS Cybersecurity Assistant Professor is responsible for teaching a full course load of assigned classes. A full course load is defined as 15 credit hours per semester (typically five 3-credit courses of approximately 25 students each), with alternative assignments for academic, administrative, and related duties possible. This position will demonstrate strong instructional skills and engage a diverse student body using traditional, nontraditional, and innovative methods of instruction and effectively structure classes and curriculum to support program and course outcomes. This position is expected to share in broader department coordination duties on a collaborative basis. These administrative duties may include course scheduling and staffing, curriculum development, budgeting, hiring and supervising of adjunct instructors, resolving and mediating instructor/student disputes, and mentoring adjunct instructors. This position also assists the Department Chair with administering the Cyber Security programs. In addition to teaching, the CIS Cybersecurity Assistant Professor is responsible for institutional service. This position demonstrates leadership initiative in the community.
