Job description

The Programs in Special Education in the Department of Education Specialties at St.

John's University is seeking applications for an Assistant tenure track position in Special Education.

Responsibilities include teaching graduate level courses in PK-12 Special Education at our Queens campus and online. The position requires the candidate to actively participate in student advisement, maintain an active research agenda, including seeking external grant funding, and contribute to Departmental interdisciplinary activities and initiatives. Engagement in academic service learning and field-supervision of graduate students at practicum sites across the NYC boroughs and Long Island will be required.

Qualifications

The position requires an earned Doctorate in Special Education or related field (before start date) with a minimum 3 years of full-time teaching experience in areas of PK-12 Special Education for students with disabilities in schools and or community/clinical settings, with prior graduate level teaching experience and research interests in the areas of assessment, severe disabilities, autism spectrum disorders. Specialization in ABA teaching practices will be preferred.

Candidate must demonstrate strong potential for scholarly activity and research publications. Expertise/experience in building effective school partnerships/teaching residencies in high needs, urban special education settings with students and families from a range of linguistic and cultural backgrounds is valued. A strong commitment to anti-racism pedagogy and culturally responsive teaching practices is essential. Knowledge of innovative online pedagogies will be preferred.

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary range for this position is $72,500 - $78,000. St.
