Saint Joseph's College of Maine (SJC) invites applications for the position of Full-Time Special Education Faculty - Education Department starting Fall 2024.

This is a one-year position, with the possibility of renewal. Faculty with a doctorate will be considered for a tenure track position, after the first year. The undergraduate education program is an accredited program offering Elementary and Special Education certification, Physical Education Teacher Preparation and Secondary Education. The position requires teaching face-to-face classes on campus, which is conveniently located in Standish, ME, on the shores of Sebago Lake, and within easy commuting distance of Portland.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in special education, or related field

  • Special education teaching or related service experience

  • Demonstrated mastery of current issues in special education

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and participate as part of a team

  • Ability to connect with student and prioritize student learning

  • Understanding of learning management systems (preferably Brightspace)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Special Education or closely related field (ABD at the time of hire will be considered)

  • Experience in teacher education or teacher preparation

Key Expectations of the Position

Teaching

  • Teach courses in-person on our Sebago Lake campus

  • Develop and execute instructional plans that emphasize student learning

  • Employ appropriate instructional strategies in support of learning outcomes

  • Actively engage with learning in a consistent manner

  • Constructively evaluate learners' assignments and provide timely feedback

  • Maintain accurate records of learner progress

  • Supervise clinical field experiences, as needed

  • Potentially develop reciprocal relationships with schools and agencies to actively support the success of effective special education teachers

Advising

  • Support and supervise students

Responsibilities include, but may not be limited to, teaching undergraduate courses in:

  • Introduction to Special Education and Exceptionality

  • Characteristics and Identification of Students with Mild Disabilities

  • Exceptional Student Behavior Management

  • Special Education Exceptionality Seminar

  • Special Education Methods
