The College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions is seeking to fill the position of Assistant Professor in public and population health. South Dakota State University's vision is to dramatically increase its impact through research, scholarship, and creative activity (RSCA). Goals for RSCA in the University's newly approved strategic plan, Pathway to Premier 2030, are accordingly high. Specifically, SDSU is pursuing a pathway to achieve designation as an R1 Research University by Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. Increasingly visible RSCA in SDSU's colleges will attract students wanting to learn from the best and sponsors wanting to invest where they can make a difference. Achieving this kind of growth calls for focused faculty members who are willing to collaborate with others to solve some of the world's most challenging problems. This position will work with members of the Community Practice Innovation Center (CPIC) and focus on improving access to quality healthcare in rural communities. Located on our main campus in Brookings, South Dakota, this is a full-time, tenure-track, 12-month, benefit-eligible position. This position is supervised by the department head of Allied and Population Health.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach utilizing innovative strategies in areas of expertise.

  • Promote excellence in teaching and service by setting high standards of academic and professional performance.

  • Engage in professional development activities and seek information about new trends and ideas.

  • Develop, fund, and conduct an active research program.

  • Lead curriculum efforts and assessment.

SALARY RANGE:

The salary range for this position is commensurate with qualifications. We offer a generous retirement plan that includes 6% matching, 10 hours of annual leave each month, 9.34 hours of sick leave each month, and eleven paid holidays. Relocation benefits are available per university's guidelines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's Degree in Public Health or a closely related field completed by date of application;

  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences.

  • Ability to develop, fund, and conduct active research program.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work as a contributing team member.

  • Dedication to superior and innovative teaching.

  • Demonstrated ability or potential to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate educational materials and direct effective programs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Ph.D. in Public Health or a closely related field completed or be ABD (all but dissertation) by start date.

  • Experience teaching at an institute of higher education, specifically within the area of public and population health.

  • Demonstrated leadership in developing, securing, and leading a large grant.

  • Demonstrated collaboration in developing funding proposals to support new and/or enhanced programming.

  • Experience in publishing in peer reviewed journals.
