General Summary:

The role combines faculty responsibilities with coordination duties; the Assistant Professor & Program Coordinator

  • Practical Nursing is an individual known for creativity, knowledge, and flexibility. They deliver classroom and/or clinical instruction for assigned courses within the Nursing program, demonstrating a commitment to inclusive excellence, diversity, and continuous professional improvement.

This faculty position takes on the responsibility of program coordination for the Nursing departments newly introduced practical nursing program option. As the inaugural Program Coordinator, this position involves crucial academic support, including faculty mentoring and evaluation, curriculum planning, implementation, and evaluation. Additionally, the role encompasses student advising, scheduling, and instruction. These duties unfold during the fall and spring semesters, with some extra stipend coordination duties in the summer session.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Faculty Role:

  • Provide classroom (didactic), lab, and/or clinical instruction. Receive 2 courses of reassigned time per semester to coordinate the practical nursing program option.

  • Didactic instruction normally requires preparation of materials and conducting lecture/discussion using a variety of instructional materials and technologies, for sessions that last up to three hours. Didactic instruction also includes exam preparation, proctoring, correcting, grading, and posting of exam grades.

  • Clinical and/or simulation lab instruction involves providing instruction for a group of up to 8 students in a clinical/lab simulation setting one day per week and includes selecting appropriate client assignments, and supervising and instructing students as they provide direct client care during the six-hour clinical day. Clinical instruction also includes ongoing and summative evaluation of student progress during the clinical experience.

  • Participate fully in department, division, and college meetings.

  • Post and conduct office hours in office space as required by Article XII of the MCCC Agreement.

  • Participate in college service as required by Article XII of the MCCC Agreement.

  • Meet with assigned advisees at least once per semester for the purpose of course and program advisement.

  • Maintain currency in nursing and nursing education through participation in continuing education.

  • Implement all nursing program policies as well as applicable college policies.

  • Plan, implement, and evaluate the program of learning in compliance with appropriate regulatory and accrediting agency requirements.

Coordinator Role:

  • Assist the Director of Nursing and the Dean of Health in providing academic leadership and administrative direction for faculty and students in the practical nursing program.

  • Provide leadership in the systematic assessment of course and program learning outcomes for the practical nursing program.

  • Implement, maintain, and monitor nursing program policies that support effective, responsive, high-quality education.

  • Assist the Director of Nursing to trend and analyze data on student retention, completion, employment, and success on national licensure exams.

  • Schedule and chair course coordinator team meetings for the practical nursing program.

  • Provide guidance in the selection and ordering of textbooks for program courses.

  • Collaborate with course coordinators to organize, develop, and schedule student experiences in the practical nursing program.

  • Collaborate with student support areas, (e.g. Tutoring, Enrollment, Testing, Advising), and other departments as needed.

  • Assist in planning and conducting program and course orientation for the practical nursing program.

  • Collaborate with the Director of Nursing and the course coordinators to evaluate clinical agencies with respect to the appropriateness of placement of students in the practical nursing program.

  • Serve as liaison for external agencies (e.g. clinical agencies) affiliated with the practical nursing program.

  • Serve on relevant search committees and college committees.

  • Participate in college recruitment activities, (e.g. Overview of the Nursing Program sessions, open houses) as appropriate.

  • Participate in the biannual Nursing Advisory Board meetings.

  • Assist the Director of Nursing in maintaining compliance with all accreditation and Board of Registration in nursing regulatory requirements governing the operation of the nursing education program.

  • Plan and conduct program orientation for the practical nursing program with faculty assistance.

  • Serve as liaison for external agencies.

  • Other duties within the program/department as needed or assigned.

Requirements:

  • Massachusetts Registered Nurse license in good standing by date of hire.

  • Master's degree or higher in nursing or expected graduation date prior to January 1, 2023.

  • Minimum of two years of full-time experience in nursing, or its equivalent, within the last five years.

  • Post-secondary clinical or classroom teaching experience in nursing, in addition to leadership experience.

  • Experience in collaborative work environments.

  • Experience with equity-minded work and/or understanding of individuals of diverse identities such as race, ethnicity, socioeconomic level, sexual orientation, veterans, and individuals with different academic preparation levels and varying physical and learning abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Nursing Education.

  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills.

  • Experience with program and/or course administration.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide a variety of alternative instructional methodologies and assessment strategies.

  • Understanding of and commitment to the role of the community college in higher education.

  • Bilingual skills a plus.

Additional Information:

Please note, the faculty rank of Assistant Professor may be subject to change in accordance with Article XVII of the MCCC Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Salary Range: The salary range for Column H under the MCCC 2022 Salary grids for an Assistant Professor rank is $68,192 - $91,879; actual salary commensurate with academic background and experience. Location: Lowell campus with occasional travel to Bedford as needed
