Assistant Professor Physician Assistant MD Or DO (.2 Fte)

At DMU you will make a meaningful contribution to the dynamic future of Medicine and Health Sciences. DMU is seeking a Medical Director for the Physician Assistant (PA) program who supports the program in ensuring that didactic and clinical instruction meets current practice standards as they relate to the PA role. The Medical Director is an active participant in the program and supports the development, implementation, and evaluation of program competencies, curriculum, program goals, strategic planning, and program self-assessment. The Medical Director may participate in various teaching, learning, and assessment activities, as well as service and/or scholarly activities. The Medical Director reports to the PA Program Director.

What you'll do:

Medical Director

• The Medical Director must be an active participant in the program.

• Maintain a working knowledge of the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) accreditation standards and participate in the accreditation process.

• Represent the PA Program to internal and external constituencies.

• Consult with the PA Program admissions committee regarding the selection of student applicants.

Teaching

• Assist in course coordination and/or delivery.

Service

• Provide service to the program, college, university, and community as assigned by the Program Director. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

• Assist the department in the development, ongoing review, evaluation, and revision of the curriculum as needed and as aligned with guidance from professional organizations.

• Assist in academic advising of PA students.

• Serving on program, college, and university committees as assigned.

What we're looking for:

• Must be an allopathic or osteopathic physician, licensed in the state of Iowa.

• M.D. degree from an LMCE-accredited college of medicine or D.O. degree from a COCA-accredited college of osteopathic medicine, preferably from a school with membership in the AAMC or AACOM, respectively.

• Accredited residency training with board certification by an ABMS- or AOA-approved specialty board.

• Academic experience preferred.

• Unrestricted license to practice in Iowa.

• Valid state and federal prescribing license or eligibility to gain licensure.

• Current specialty board certification.

• Membership in good standing with a professional organization appropriate to the candidate's area of expertise.
