Barness, MD, one of the outstanding academic pediatricians of his generation. Dr. Barness recruited exceptional clinicians and investigators and was instrumental in developing comprehensive child health services in the Tampa Bay area.

Our department includes 80 MDs and 19 PhDs in 15 divisions, and 129 voluntary clinical faculty. These faculty and our dedicated staff work together to deliver outstanding clinical care and training. POSITION SUMMARY:

The University of South Florida (USF) Morsani College of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics is seeking a full-time faculty member. We provide the full spectrum of pediatric nephrologic care, including CRRT, dialysis and renal transplantation.

Our primary clinical facilities are: All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg http://www.allkids.org/ and the Children's Medical Center at Tampa General Hospital.

We also provide consultative services at St. Joseph's Hospital. This position requires a passion for teaching medical students and pediatric residents.

Clinical duties include weekly outpatient clinics and inpatient attending. This is a non-tenure earning position, and the salary is negotiable. The occupant of the position is also expected to participate in the Department's other educational programs and to participate in the required Continuing Medical Education and Risk Management programs in order to maintain his/her professional skills.

As with all faculty, there is the responsibility to provide consultation and services where indicated both within the University and the Community. The position includes the clinical practice of medicine in the College of Medicine and its affiliated entities as a member to the University Medical Service Association, Inc. with the assignment of all clinically derived income to the Association for use in supporting the College and the Department.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • TEACHING: The faculty member appointed will be expected to contribute to departmental teaching programs involving medical students and house staff.

    He/She will participate in the preparation/organization of new educational programs as well as participation in university/ college assigned committees. The individual will be expected to effectively utilize his/her clinical practice as a teaching resource. Teaching medical students, residents, and fellows in both the inpatient and outpatient settings; lecturing and supervising medical students, residents, and fellows.

  • RESEARCH: The faculty member will be encouraged to participate in ongoing research and in seeking funding for research. Collaborative effort within the Department and the University will be encouraged.

  • CLINICAL: The position includes the management of pediatric nephrology patients in both the outpatient and inpatient settings. Phone triage, night call, and weekend inpatient coverage will be divided among section members on a rotating basis.

  • The occupant of the position is also expected to participate in the Department's other educational programs and to participate in the required Continuing Medical Education and Risk Management programs in order to maintain his/her professional skills.

    As with all faculty, there is the responsibility to provide consultation and services where indicated both within the University and the Community.   • Responsible to a Chair or other appropriate higher-level administrator of a State university. Responsible for teaching, research, service, and related administrative activities.

    Responsible for academic advising and related activities. May represent the university, college/school, or department/unit on university and/or Statewide committees.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM:

  • Medical degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service.

  • Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor.

  • This position of Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Nephrology requires that the applicant be board-certified in pediatrics and board-certified or eligible in Pediatric Nephrology. Prior to the date of hire, a Florida Medical License is required.
