Glenville State University invites for a tenure-track assistant professor in Social Studies begin in Fall 2024. Individuals with a commitment to teaching and scholarly excellence are encouraged to apply. The successful applicant will have responsibility for teaching, advising, participating in departmental and university service activities, and participating in professional development. Individuals with interest in or expertise in curriculum innovation as well as a commitment to teaching in their specialties are encouraged to apply. Expertise in instructional technology and online teaching is desirable.

The successful candidate is expected to:

  • Teach 12 hours of courses in the Social Sciences, specifically elementary and secondary Social Studies/Sciences methods courses and other history, geography, and/or global studies courses as well as interfacing with public school partners to strengthen social studies education in public schools.

  • Supervise social studies/science education field placements.

  • Evaluate and revise curriculum and courses for social studies/sciences and social studies licensure granting programs.

  • Develop, implement, and engage in professional development activities related to teaching social studies.

  • Assist with departmental and program assessment, including continued national accreditation for social studies/sciences education program (CAEP).

  • Assist with student recruitment and retention.

A Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Social Studies/History Education or Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with Masters in Social Studies/History Education or closely related field with at least 18 graduate hours in history. A area of expertise outside of American history is preferred. ABD will be considered.
