JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Pennsylvania State University Department of Kinesiology, housed in the College of Health and Human Development, seeks a core faculty member, at either the rank of Assistant or Associate Teaching Professor, to join the Professional Athletic Training Program.

The core faculty member will actively participate in operating the accredited Master of Athletic Training (MAT) program. This position requires the integration of skills exemplary of faculty members and those evident in competent and compassionate athletic trainers.

Basic job duties include: delivering high-quality instruction that aligns with the candidate's contemporary expertise; effectively advising graduate students to strive for excellence in their scholarly work; actively engaging in service activities that ensure the curriculum is achieving its mission, vision, and goals. This is a full-time, non-tenure track, limited-term teaching faculty appointment with an 18-credit workload for the academic year. Effort in the fall, spring and summer periods will vary based on teaching assignments.

Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. There is an excellent possibility of reappointment upon meeting or exceeding job expectations. Career advancement opportunities are linked to the University's non-tenure line promotion process.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Meeting the technical standards of the program is a realistic expectation of this position.

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Qualified candidates will have earned a master's degree (doctorate preferred) in athletic training, health & rehabilitation sciences, kinesiology or a closely related field. Candidates must hold current BOC status as an athletic trainer in good standing and be eligible for Pennsylvania professional licensure.

A minimum of three years (five preferred) of college teaching and experience in a Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) approved program are required. A minimum of three years (five preferred) full-time clinical athletic training experience (preferably as a preceptor) beyond a graduate student assistantship is required. The ideal candidate should have an established record of successful teaching and student advising.

Proficiency in musculoskeletal evaluation and treatment, especially manual therapy, is highly desirable. A history of active participation in professional organizations and evidence of scholarly activities is strongly recommended. Excellent digital literacy, organizational, and communication/interpersonal skills are a must.

Enthusiastically engage in the recruitment, admission, and retention of diverse and talented graduate students. Dynamically contribute to the planning and delivery of high-quality athletic training education in the classroom, laboratory, and experiential learning (mostly simulation) settings.

Assist the Program Director (PD) and Clinical Education Coordinator (CEC) in maintaining and ensuring compliance with Standards for the Accreditation of Professional Athletic Training Programs established by CAATE. Work with the PD and CEC to ensure course objectives and student learning outcomes align with and achieve the most current BOC Practice Analysis and NATA Athletic Training Education Competencies. Positively mentor students in executing a culminating experience that meets the MAT degree requirements.

Prepare graduates for national, and/or state certification examinations, and post-graduate placement as an entry-level athletic trainer. Actively contribute to the review and revision of policies and procedures for efficient curricular operations, and maintain appropriate records. Assist the PD in the ongoing development of program goals, outcome assessments, budgetary needs, and strategic planning.

Reliably serve on the program, departmental, college, and university committees. Affiliation and involvement with national, regional, and state professional organizations are strongly encouraged. Continued professional development or scholarly activity is expected. This position reports directly to the Kinesiology Department Head, with an indirect reporting line to the Program Director of Athletic Training.
